Well, the "my favourite authors" list above aside....
Straight up, you're fucked if you don't read Marx's complete works. Marxism has been a pretty big thing, so there's a lot of stuff that plain doesn't make sense unless you've given Capital and shit a go. Man fucking everyone needs to fucking reference Marx in their fucking preface for some reason fuck.

yeah if he would buy all the stuff from all of these people then he would be poor if he wasnt that before allready, and amazon is probally happy for your little advertisment. not to mention that he asked for a "basic" reading list and not a "you should listen to this" list.
I've read little Leftist works sub Communist Manifesto and numerous leftist Articles, and I was wandering what books I should read to give me a good, broad knowledge on the subject and different revolutionaries perspectives.
if you want some stuff that is relativly easy to read i'd say "abc of communism" by nikolai bucharin, "Wage Labour and Capital" by marx, "State and Revolution" by lenin there is of course much much more and much more leftist thought that wasnt even touched on, but these 3 works wont kill you thats for sure and give youo at least somewhat of a start.

all links clickable so feel free to dip in here and there and browse around. The introducing Marxism thing is a good starting point to get to grips with actual Marxism. It explains the core theory - dialectical materialism.

I'd be pretty annoyed if an SWPer filled a thread with Harman, Callinicos or Cliff books ya know what i mean?

I still fail to see why you think the CWI is reformist. Maybe you should start a thread explaining your views and how they differ from the CWI's supposed reformism. Don't do it here.

Ok thanks for the help, I'll head to the library today and seems I'll be checking out quite a few books :P
Definately will be getting Lenins work, as well as Das Kapital. May delve into Trotsky as well, but Stalinism and Maoism don't really seem ideal to me, so I may skip on them.
Once again, Thanks :D

For the basics, one could start with The Communist Manifesto and The ABCs of Communism by Nikolai Bukharin and Evgen Preobrazhensky. The next step would be to begin to come to grips with Capital (Marx, of course). I strongly recommend watching a series of lectures available on line by Professor David Harvey as an adjunct to any foray into reading Capital.

Not reformist, just not very effective. Stalls, paper sales, petitions (not sent anywhere, just to get contacts), intervening in struggle (read: opportunities for recruitment) and losing deposits in places where the groundwork simply hasn't been done. In an age when the working class have lost faith in socialism, this is a sure fire way to get nowhere very fast.

Yep, sub-Jehovah-Witness, with about as much interest from the working class! :)

Noone interested in some communism 101?
Maybe Plato's The republic?
Or Thomas More's Utopia?
