nah i don't know about that. they're almost decent with shades of gray I think. I mean, they managed to make Machiavelli a good guy.

I just wish they never put in the fucking modern day sci-fi thing in with the series and of course the LOL ALIENS angle. I mean goddamn it'd be so much better if it was just a bunch of assassins throughout history, you know?

I'm just holding out for an Assassin's Creed set in Revolutionary France or ANYWHERE in Europe circa 1848.

I also want to point out that the whole Brotherhood of Assassins thing fits rather neatly with Bakunin's "Invisible Dictatorship". Just throwing things out there. Sowing seeds in case anyone at Ubisoft happens to be perusing left-wing websites right now.

Considering Ubisoft is a French company...

Doesn't mean they can't develop a game to capitalise hugely on the American market, which is essentially what this seems to be doing. I would have settled for Revolutionary France (#FF0000 already beat me to suggesting that)... I played AC 1&2 and thought they were both pretty boring for the last 70% after the novelty of running about and jumping off things wore off. Maybe i'm just being pissy for no reason, I've been up all night drinking

I really liked the last few assassin's creeds, but I've noticed they always seem to perfect the new shit the last game added while adding more features that end up feeling unrefined, e.g. the item-and-shop buying thing they added in AC2, which seemed almost pointless to me until Brotherhood (which added the whole 'train your own assassins' thing which ended up hardly coming into play in Brotherhood anyway).

But god fucking dammit the writing is weak as hell. As it is in almost all games these days. It's seriously so poor that I'd say I hate the series even though I really, really want to enjoy it.

Leonid Brozhnev
2nd March 2012, 09:22
Yeah, I didn't much get the buying stuff in AC2. Kicking the popes ass was fun at the end, then it went all bat shit insane and I was kinda like lolwut? Never played Brotherhood, I lost interest in AC after I completed 2, decided it was too much of the same.
I don't know, I might try III... can't help being sent into a fit by American flags, it's just that fiery commie rage.

Judging from the series, there will be no "fighting for freedom, liberty" rubbish. It will be just a war, no liberalist rhetoric. Probably some consp. Theories in regards to founding "fathers". Who cares. Looks cool.

Usually in the AC games the Assassin's stay out of any major war but who knows, I can't wait to wail on some Redcoats:) I really enjoyed the storyline of the first game and Altair is way better that Etzio if you ask me :L I enjoyed 2 along with Brotherhood and Revelations wasn't bad so we'll have to wait and see...

so a friend sent me this and won't tell me where he got it which probably means it's bullshit because fuck this guy.

info on the game.

The new Assassin is the son of a Native American woman and a British soldier. His calls himself Connor, but his birth name is Ratohnhaké:ton. Born into the Mohawk, he eventually crosses paths with the Assassins in his search for righteousness.

Connor is quiet and stoic, letting actions speak for words rather than conversing with others. In contrast to Ezio, Connor is a freedom fighter who acts in the name of justice rather than on personal revenge.

The game is set between 1753 and 1783, meaning we will be playing a good chunk of Connor's life, about the timeframe of Assassin's reed II and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood combined.

Settings will include Boston, New York and a large countryside. The countryside will be the setting of about 1/3 of the game, and will be the location of many events during the game. The countryside will be about 1.5 times as big as Rome in Brotherhood

The protagonist will fight on the American side, with primary allies George Washington, Benjamin Franklin and Charles Lee. However, this does not mean that the Americans are the good guys and the British are the bad guys. Templars are everywhere

There will be seasons in the game, meaning that the sun will shine during summer and the landscape will be covered in snow during winter.

Fighting and stealth will be completely re-innovated, with Connor being compared to a “predator”. The player will be able to climb trees and other natural elements, and dual-wielding weapons such as a dagger and a mohawk is now also an option.

Animals will be present in the woods, like deer and bears. The player will be able to kill them and pelt their skins, to sell them later with the reformed economic system of the game.

There will be puzzles similar to The Truth, only they will not be given by Subject 16.

Desmond will go into the new Animus 3.0 and will find himself going into “significant events”.

100% sync in memories returns, though this time you will be rewarded when you complete memories to 100%. Checkpoints will also be introduced to mission replay, meaning you don’t have to replay an entire mission to get that 100% sync.

The Brotherhood, or Assassins Guild, will return in some form, albeit differently than we have seen before.

There will be no more Mercenaries, Thieves, Courtesans, Romani or other factions, but there will be a replacement for them.

Den Defense will not return.So. Yeah. Could be interesting?

Seeing as this is likely the last one (21/12/2012 is coming up, as they have said it fits with this), its a shame they chose revolutionary America.
Of all the suggestions I'd heard, such as Feudal Japan, the French Revolution, even Victorian England, the American Revolution just seems too easy of a target, and a weak choice on the writers behalf. Who knew what the result of Ezio's plight would be, or Altairs? Having the American Revolution takes a lot away from the historical (albeit fictional) exploration the previous games have provided.
So yeah, a little disappointed in the choice.

Personally, I really wish they do a WWI Assassin's Creed at some point. However, I'm still incredibly glad to be etting out of the renaissance.

In the meantime, here's some screenshots of this one:

WW1? A war where the primary weapons were guns?
That would completely take the fun of hand-to-hand combat out of the game, which is one of the games really strong points.

colonial america is a decent setting though i would have liked to see more out there stuff... feudal japan, ancient babylon, aztec, mayan or any american indian setting (without europeans, or minor involvement), northern europe during the 16th century, idk places where you would almost never expect an action game.

This sounds cool, I might have to pick it up. Last AC I played was the first... from there I got distracted but this one seems unique enough to make me care again (if only momentarily).

This sums up perfectly my thoughts on Assassin's Creed, I never even bothered to play the second one. That said I may rent the third one, based on the setting alone. The severe lack of video games, set after the development of firearms but before WW2 makes it a novelty.

Actually, in the trenches there was a great deal of close quarter combat, so the guns would still not take away the hand to hand. Besides, as I recall the primary weapons of the revolutionary war were guns too...

I didn't even finish AC:Revelations yet, since I pirated it I had some complications with a patch and haven't bothered to re-install it yet.

Colonial America? Seriously? That's a pretty shitty place. What the fuck is there in Colonial America that's interesting? Especially after Florence, Venice, Rome and Constantinople...

This game, as well as its predecessors, are nothing more than Splinter Cell ripoffs.

I am not seeing this at all. Splinter Cell had no platforming and a completely different combat system as well as a shadow-based stealth system whereas in AC it's about blending into a crowd or just not being within a guard's FOV.

Not sure about Colonial America. Not enough tall shit to jump off of.

The whole sci-fi plot thingy is a little cheesy. AC is like a bloodier version of Indiana Jones 4, with slightly less suck.

Still looking forward to this, though. The tomahawk looks swag as fuck, and I'm strangely giddy about using a bow, too.

Hell yes. Initially this is what I thought it was when the first game came out, I was uber-confused when I started it up and it had all these sci-fi elements. I really don't care much about the whole Assassin/Templar angle, I just like exploring the urban environments and doing sneaky ninja shit.

The main thing that bothers me about the aliens angle is that it's all Chariot of the Gods and shit. Only perhaps not as Eurocentric.

I'm just holding out for an Assassin's Creed set in Revolutionary France or ANYWHERE in Europe circa 1848.Hell yes. Friend of mine had long hoped for a game set in the French Revolution, maybe surrounding Robespierre or Napoleon. One possibility that I'd love to see would be a game set in Victorian England, in the fog of London.

I also want to point out that the whole Brotherhood of Assassins thing fits rather neatly with Bakunin's "Invisible Dictatorship". Just throwing things out there. Sowing seeds in case anyone at Ubisoft happens to be perusing left-wing websites right now.One of the coolest things about the first game, I thought, was how each victim took time to justify himself and sow doubt, and sometimes made a very compelling case about how they didn't deserve to die. I really liked that approach, because it's quite possible the Assassins are, in their own way, just as bad as the Templars. Dunno.

man i was hoping they'd be in the period, but in the Spanish empire in the Americas.Mexico City, Puebla, Zacatecas, etc. would have all owned.nothing really beats wiping the floor with a bunch of franj though ACI owned.

I haven't liked others than Assassin's creed 1. Nothing than being in middle east during crusades gives you real assassin with sword and blade feeling. And the atmosphere of middle east jerusalem area and so on was just epic on that game... I tried to play the italian part but it bored me too quickly..

Real assassins were middle easterners.

Being from Mass. I'm actually pretty psyched about the setting and the character. I'd love to see colonial Boston depicted.

Also love the Mohawk angle. I just hope it isn't a patriotic fapfest about FREEDOM. Maybe it will show the Americans screwing over their native allies (few as they were) after the war.

Wondering as well whether it will cover the 7 years war, which the natives of New York were very, very involved in. Too bad they didn't pick a setting about a hundred years earlier and use the Pequot war ;)

I'm just such a nerd for the setting I'd have to play it.

i hope it goes to like the war of 1812

and like connor ends up realizing 'hey those assasins that i was supposed to be helping to form a new, experimental country where nothing was true are assholes'

It just occurred to me that if the Assassin in AC3 is really a Native American then its going to be really ironic, because one of the main sources of colonial agitation that sparked the Revolution was that the British wanted the colonials to stop starting wars with Indian tribes.

in one of the comics i guess the assassins are basically the same as 'peoples will' and assassinate that czar. that'd be pretty cool. bolsheviks would be boring

I didnt like the fact that it is in the USA from the moment i saw it. I thought it would be so much better to happen during the French revolution if it is a revolution they wanted to illustrate. But than on the other hand it is boring to fight again in towns and middle age stuff. Its so much better that you are an Indian and fight in woods and stuff :D
