Hello everyone. I'm America, particularly from New Jersey. From what I can gather the leftist scene here is considered progressive democrat. Socialists, communists appear to be on the fringe. Of course, this is my perception and I am the first to admit I could be wrong. If I had to apply a label, I suppose it would have to be a progressive Democrat, though I believe I am even to the eft of them. As to how I became a leftist, when I became old enough to vote there were Democratic organizers registering people to vote. I have to admit that until then, I hadn't given it much thought. Following the advise of friends and neighbors I registered as a Democrat and have ote that way for the majority of my voting life, thus far.

Soooo... I guess the question becomes why am I here? Well, I got to thinking that something is terribly wrong. That this Capitalist Utopia is simply not working for too many people. Then, I began to wonder why, if this is the case, alternative solutions aren't offered or even sought. Then I began to wonder what other alternative were available and naturally the concept of socialism began to look attractive. Well, at least my cursory understanding of what that is (everyone working together equally for the common good) did. Anyway over the course of several years now, I've eschewed religion, I am an atheist. I've become skeptical of all that is being served up in what is considered news. And I have become disenchanted in what we call democracy and totally disgusted in the horrors perpetrated in the name of freedom. In doing this, I have also begun to question all that we are supposed to believe.

I came across this site while doing a search for intelligent political discourse and from what I have been reading the past several days, you are discussing what no one wants to discuss, alternative structures. Why we damn near collapse the country to make sure that Communism was not allowed to take hold and be refined. Now, I don't know what branch of Leftism I belong to and I intend to spend a great deal of time in the learning section (love that) but, I know I belong to one and I will be asking questions. I am just appreciative because, while it may not be a possibility now, hopefully future generations will know that it was being discussed as an alternative while Rome ii was falling. May the not make the same mistakes.
