I am a total noob with this stuff so please help me out.

I register a domain on godaddy

1. Does that means i own the domain?

2. Can I sell or transfer it?

3. is freelancer a good place to look for someone to help me build my site?

4. what are some inexpensive ways to get help?

5. Can I register the domain anonymously?

I have more questions but these are the basic.

1. Yes
2. Yes
3. Yes
4. I'm not sure, what is your budget?
5. Yes, but it depends on the registrar.

If you want to put up a website, I suggest you set it up via a "Content Management System". There are three main content management systems (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Content_management_system), in order from "easy to learn" to "high learningcurve", but also from "not very flexible" to "extremely flexible": Wordpress (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wordpress), Joomla (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joomla) and Drupal (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drupal).

There are of course many more CMS systems, but these are the "big 3" and have a big usercommunity each. Depending on your needs, I'm sure there is a CMS for you.

Use a fake name and address?

i mean on the godaddy WHOIS page sometimes it says a persons full name and address, but sometimes its just an email and a one word name.

also, on godaddy it says its 9.99$ to register a domain for the first year? well how much is it for the next year? what if my site is very popular, will they jack up fee's?

sorry i have no idea how this works.

You can ask them if they can respect your privacy. If they can or will not, then I suggest you just use fake credentials if it bothers you.

According to their page (http://www.godaddy.com/domains/search.aspx) domains normally cost $12.99. The only thing you have to worry about is webhosting (http://www.godaddy.com/hosting/web-hosting.aspx?ci=8971), although the traffic at GoDaddy doesn't seem to be any problem.

GoDaddy is pure evil.
I recommend Linode for server hosting and Gandi for domain hosting.

When you purchase a domain name you usually are offered a 1-year whoisguard subscription, which puts faked information in your WHOIS info automatically.

I use http://www.namecheap.com
