View Full Version : Politics on your sleeve?

thriller

Always wondered if people here make an attempt to show off their political ideology in their outward appearance. I know some people have political tattoos, but what about those who don't (and I guess those who do too)? Do you flaunt your leftist ideas on your clothes? Do you think that's lame? Do not give a fuck?

For myself, I have many leftist shirts/hoodies/buttons and whatnot. I don't think ahead of time what I'm going to wear, but at random I usually wear some political propaganda at least twice a week.

you couldn't tell my politics from the way i look or dress no

I don't wear them often, but I have a lot of radical T-shirts - one of my faves is a black one with BOLSHEVIK in red text down the front. Mostly collected from branches fundraising at the ISO conferences.

oh actually my uncle sent me a t-shirt with an illustration of san francisco up in flames from some anarchist bookstore there - it's not really obviously an "anarchist" t-shirt tho

The only political clothing type items I have are a "Modesto Anarcho Crew" tshirt, cause my friend used to be in the MAC, and I wear it sometimes cause it says that and "proletarian youth gone wild" with a girl w/bandanna throwing a gang sign.

I also have a hat that says CWS, which was (is?) our very informal and somewhat political crew in my town, which stands for Class War Syndicate (syndicate like crime syndicate, not like unions).

I also have a hammer and sickle tattoo, which is small and I don't really think much about, a CWS tattoo, which nobody would know what it is anyways, and a stalin portrait, but that doesn't have political motivation.

I also have "social war" and a big circle a tattooed on my stomach, but I don't got around shirtless.

I guess I would say no, I don't wear politics on my sleeve, though if you paid really close attention you might be able to notice them.

When I go to rallies and marches I wear buttons, headscarves and armbands and such. I have tattoos but the are covered except in summer, and always at work. So I don't wear politics on my sleeve.

All my shirts and sweaters are either pollitical or from often pollitical bands, my summer jacket has some subtle AFA, anarchist black cross and other pins on it, my regular jacket has no pollitical stuff on it but anyone can finger me for a autonomist from miles away.
Oh, and i mostly have 15 mm tunnels with redstars on them in my ears...
And yeah, the huge no passaran! meets international brigades symbol tattoo on my back is probably a dead give away too...

sometimes i guess i dress in an "autonomen"/hooligan inspired manner - skinny black jeans, black hi-tops and a black lyle and scott shell jacket

I might get a simple hammer and sickle tattoo somewhere on my body, when I'm older. I've never been interested in tattoos before, but this thread has given me some ideas, thanks! :thumbup1:

When I was 15 I wore an Obama pin :blushing:
Besides that, which I probably still have somewhere even though I will never wear it again, I have nothing. I'd love to if I could afford it, even though people would probably hate me for it.

I don't really have any clothes that advertise my politics, apart from a RevLeft t-shirt.

na, i think i have 1 or 2 leftitst t-shirts from when i was younger but never really wore them. from ym usual appearal you could guess that im a black metalhead and you'd be right about that.

Nah, not at all. You have to know me to know my politics, and even then most of my family isn't aware of any distinct political position beyond "they're going to make things worse no matter what party they're in" ...

I occasionally wear a red star on my lapel but if you spent any amount of time in my presence, you'd probably work out what my political persuasion is from my big mouth.

If I see anyone dressed as MRN then I usually try to punch them.

I'm losing interest in all things leftist. The symbols have little to no value to me.. You could probably guess I'm a leftist by the way I look since my hair is always messy, my clothes are casual.. etc. I just look like a poor stereotypical leftist.

i used to have a lot of buttons, some of which were political. usually on my bag or something but i don't carry that around anymore

I used to have a couple anti-war pins which were on my backpack among the band pins that I had. but I don't wear pins anymore.

I want to get an anarchist black rose tattoo somewhere. Maybe my neck or shoulder.

I'm too poor to go out and buy radical shirts, and too lazy to do it myself.

The only piece of political clothing I own is a hooded sweatshirt with this symbol on it:

Not many people know it's meaning, though.

I have a really cute black t-shirt with just Rosa Luxemburgs face printed on the front. I also have some "support this"-t-shirts, but they're usually extremely ugly, so i don't wear 'em except for cold winter nights in bed....

I have two Che Guevara shirts, a Lenin t-shirt and a CWI t-shirt. so if I am wearing either of those I suppose. I prefer clean black clothing though.

I write slogans on my hands/arms sometimes.
I have a shirt that says some stuff about "turning the gears of wage slavery"... I have that Communist Party shirt with Marx, Lenin, Stalin, Mao, and Castro getting drunk but that doesn't necessarily mean the wearer is a communist... And I have the 3D glasses I covered in red duct tape completely and then I drew the hammer/sickle on each of the lenses. It's weird. I know.

I've got a bunch of hammer and sickle tees, and wear black cargo pants/slim straight jeans with boots. I also have a military style black jacket. I think that sends a message to a lot of people.

Just remembered some bullshit from back in the day.

I have a Black BDU top decked out with patches from Crass back in the day, with a Swastika being covered by one of those "stamp out" signs or whatever it was called. Suspended for hate symbols.

Fuck yes. I love wearing political shirts. Have a ton of em. If anyone wants details of my collection let me know. :) Anyway, I wear em to spark conversations, meet like minded people and yes, to piss some people off lmao. I've actually only had two incidents with people who didn't like what I was wearing; while wearing my hammer & sickle hoodie at the grocery store I just got glared at by two guys. And the other time was wearing my Fuck The System shirt, with the words and the Anarchy A on the U.S. flag, some lady flipped me off lol. Other than that I've gotten alot of compliments from people when I wear my shirts.

I have black tees and tees with nice artwork on them, but nothing political. I used to have a shit tonne of badges and patches I wore back in high school, but gradually I lost them all.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Most of the time I dress like your average metalhead (bandshirts, spiked belts, fingerless gloves etc.), but I do own a few political shirts and I am getting some political buttons for on my "battle jacket" to go along with band patches and buttons already there.
