OK, so I realize this sounds nuts, but here goes...
...it is my SUpER SECRET DREAM to fly a plane. I live practically up the ass of an airport and the gigantic Boeing assembly plant, so there are planes and jets etc. literally EVERYWHERE, and every time I see them, I think of how completely, ridiculously fun it would be to fly one.
Anyway, I started asking around a bit recently, mostly just out of curiosity, and apparently flight schools cost an OBSCENE amount of money. So I guess this is all almost certainly a complete pipe dream. However, I was wondering if anybody here had any creative suggestions. Are there any Help A Broke Ho Learn To Fly™ charities, etc? GIMME IDEAS :(

You live in Seattle eh?
I wanted to be a pilot. But seeing that being one would kill my social life, i renounced.
The wages for airline pilots are EXTREMELY high. For flying a Boeing 747, it's not rare that you are paid 300 000 a year. Expect 70 000 a year for flying an Airbus A320/Boeing 737
Also, Expect to pay 50 000 for the training course. But remember that you still don't have a job.
(Secret hint : I live in Canada. And here, we have public flight school as well as private flight school.)

I am not talking about a career, I am pretty positive I am gonna be stuck in relatively shitty jobs for the rest of my life. All I would really like is just to try flying one time. Anyway, pretty positive that its impossible, so should probably stop dreaming lol

I've flown planes before, its pretty fucking boring in my opinion, but thats just me.
I flew planes because when I was young I was a cadet in the Civil Air Patrol. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civil_Air_Patrol)
You could join them, and if the unit has a plane (not all units have them) you could fly quite a bit, for free.

we in croatia also have public flight school. you pay like 200-300€ to state and you learn how to drive a plane. but only a small one... you know... like those Maggie from Northern Exposure used to fly

Where I live many people learn to fly. One of my friends doesn't even have her driver's license, but she has her pilot's license.
Of course I'm talking about smaller float planes, though, not jets or anything. Although I feel that flying small prop planes must be more fun than flying a jet, as you can do all sorts of mid-air maneuevers that are highly frowned upon by the FAA. There's more of a chance that you'll crash and die, but that just adds to the excitment. Someone I flew with once let me fly the plane from the co-pilot's seat, it was fun.

Yeah... I'm kind of scared of heights... but I like to fly in planes. Once I was flying in small plane with this crazy women and she was making all kind of maneuevers, like flying under a bridge and acting like she's gonna crush into library etc. I know that we are not going to crush or anything but it was really excting and I was full of adrenaline... Better than any rolecoaster. Also, small planes are better then jets because you can actually see something from sky... while in jets you see only fucking cloudes...

I've heard that jet pilots have an obscene amount of student debt and are underpaid. Here's something interesting:

I agree about small planes being more fun. I was once in a, sort of, crash in a small plane. I was in the copilot seat and this old guy, who I think actually may have been slightly drunk, was flying, and anyway, he forgot to put down the landing gear and totaled the plane
Incidentally, he died a few months later, when another small plane he was flying crashed into the sea... the guy obviously shouldnt have been flying.

Haha, crash into a library?
I had a scary experience flying once. I flew out of a remote area with my friend's dad, when I was 16. His float plane was literally held together with, like, duct tape and wire. Ok maybe not that bad, but he had basically cobbled the plane together with spare parts he bought. It was the most dangerous plane I'd ever been in. We flew right into a big storm, too. Water started coming into the plane from cracks in the windows, and his solution was to hand me a roll of paper towels and tell me to stem the flow of water with them. All this while the plane was getting hammered by the wind. It was one of the only times in my life when I thought I was going to die, that and the time I ate KFC in Budapest.

I mean this crazy women (and I don't mean anything bad with crazy) is really good pilot. She's just fucking with your fear etc. but if she sees that you are really scared she just drives nicely. I like such people...
Anyhow, I'm not really into planes, but I'd like to have time to drive my grandfathers boat. In summer river in my town gets down and sand islands appere. Then we go to make barbicue and shit... or we just turn of the engines and let steam "drives" us away... It's really cool.
We have this one:

Where I live, (In the province of Québec) instead of college, we have something called CEGEP. CEGEP are public school. And there's a CEGEP that offer an aviation training program. Which is almost free.
I think there are schools like this one in Ontario too.

Civil Air Patrol isn't the "Air Force". I'd honestly look into it if you actually want to fly planes. You don't have to fool around with any of the military influeced stuff they do.
You do live in the US, right?

I remember the second time I got completely fucked up. I picked up a toy plane in my buds attic and said im going to fly us to the Eiffel Tower.
I sat down with the plane at my feet, spread my arms, and a rocket shot out of my ass. I felt myself being pushed forwards and I leaned back to let the air pick me up and take me to the sky. I did all sorts of wild maneuvers, as my bud sat in the back seat scared shitless. The landing was a bit rough, but we made it alright.
I miss em.
Just get fucked up, and you'll fly like an eagle. :)

No, I don't think it's that expensive, actually. It's time consuming, though, you have to log a bunch of hours of flight time. I'm not sure about the specifics of how exactly you get certified...she grew up in kind of a backwoods place, where the lifeline to civilization was float plane pilots, and she got into the business that way, kind of like an apprenticeship kind of thing or something.
There's some dumb show on the Discovery Channel (which apparently has a raging hard-on for all things Alaska) about "bush pilots", you should watch it.

My university has a free pilot bachelor degree if you have the grades, and you have to learn yourself Norwegian. I think it is free for foreign students as well.

I couldn't find the information in english, but the classes overview is in english, and you can probably contact the university for more info.

Nah, I want to say I was around 14. My friend kept all kinds of shit in his attic, seeing as it was a 100 year old house. It was a old metal toy plane, definately too old to get at a modern store.
I have no idea on the second part, all I remember from that night was the plane experience, its been about 5 years.
Said friend joined the USAF to get closer to jets. Hope he is doing alright, because last I heard he was going to A-stan soon.
