Have any of you seen these accusations in this article before? Although this is separate from the article below, there was a documentary on russian TV the other day, which claimed Lenin was ''paid a huge sum of money'' by the Germans to ''start a revolution in Russia''.

Mmm, I have no specific sources (yet, at least), but I'm pretty sure that Germany somehow helped Lenin, if not by money specifically, then at least they helped him getting to Petrograd. They helped setting up a sealed train that got him to Sweden, then Finland and so Russia. Remember that the Germans would gain on a Russia in chaos, they could consentrate on the west front.

I dunno if there is any truth in it, if it was it was for simple strategic reasons or weird business strategy rather than some huge conspiracy theory. It doesn't make much sense though to fund a class enemy.

Its pretty stupid considering you can pay me whatever sum of money you want, if the material conditions aren't there a revolution can't begin. Same shitty capitalist great man theories.

It isn't all just "propaganda" or "Menshivik lies", the Germans did assist Lenin in returning to Russia in 1917 from Switzerland and offered some financial help. You can see why; because he would undermine the Russian war effort and because the Bolsheviks were at the forefront of the opposition to WWI and planned for an immediate peace, which did of course come when they came to power

If some opportunist capitalists before 1917 were induced to make donations to this that or the other campaign through the various bourgeois fake ‘socialist’ salons or networks and some of that cash ended up in the Bolshevik’s pockets, good for the Bolsheviks! Easier than knocking banks off, which was also employed.

The Germans helped Lenin because their interests met on one issue: pulling Russia out of history's most pointless capitalist war. They were not friendly to the Bolsheviks in power, and the German ruling class itself would soon have to deal with revolutionaries.

The conspiracy theory that some users above jumped the gun to mock is that a bunch of western Jew bankers organized the Russian revolution. Actually it was the Kaiser's Germany that helped Lenin, you know, the "2nd Reich" for which Hitler fought and wept.
