Stratfor is (ostensibly) a geopolitical consulting firm started and run by George Friedman, headquarted in Austin, Texas. They put out more or less pro-imperialist but interesting and useful analysis of global politics. They also offer consulting services to corporate clients and militaries.

Friedman has also several books projecting future world events 10 and then 100 years into the future. Loopy but a fun read. He has Russia breaking up within the next 10 years and China imploding. There will be a Third World War in the 2060s between the US and a Turkish-Japanese alliance. The war will be limited and most of it will be in space. The US will win, it goes without saying. In the 2090s the US will be forced to return Texas and California to Mexico.Despite this the US will continue its unchallenged global hegemony for the next 400 years.

Strangely, Friedman almost manages to make this dreck sound convincing.

Anyway a few months ago Anonymous carried out a hack on Stratfor and obtained credit card info from its clients ( most of whom were military or private secure people) and made donations with this info to charities such as Save The Children. The clients were extremely angry about this, as shown on Stratfor's FB page, although I thought it was hilarious.Stratfor's rep was seriously damaged.

Well it turns out Stratfor was far more than just a geopolitical consulting firm. They were literally a private CIA, spying on protestors in India, paying off politicians worldwide and carrying out insider trading.

More interesting info

The WikiLeaks GiFiles: Stratfor Predicts Huge Oil Profits from Attack on Iran

An email sent by Chris Farnham, senior officer for Stratfor, to an internal unnamed source inside the company titled "Israel/Iran Barak Hails Munitions Blast in Iran" provides details about who would benefit from an Israeli attack on Iran, and say such a plan would be motivated by economic factors.
According to the email, sent on November 13, 2011, supporters of an Israeli-led attack are Russia, India and Saudi Arabia, while the EU and China stand against such plans, mainly for economic reasons.

"Not many people know that Russia is one of Israel's largest military partners and India is Israel's largest client. If a direct conflict between Iran and Israel erupts, Russia and Saudi Arabia will gain the advantages on oil increasing prices. On the other hand, China and Europe are expected to lose from an oil crisis as a result of a conflict," the email says

Sounds a bit counter intuitive but may have some validity. I suspect there wil soon be a treasure trove of juicy info coming out of the Stratfor leak. Assange ain't dumb.
