Yo,

So last six months of my life has been a rollercoaster. Been some of the most significant/exciting/fun/awe-inspiring experiences but also the darkest and most challenging.

I flunked last semester of uni due to battling emotional and interpersonal problems which culminated in me making detailed plans to take my own life which were halted only by the intervention of friends two days prior to when I was due to carry out the act after finding out about them through no intention of my own.

Things have stabilised somewhat but the root of my problems are persisting and aren't showing signs of slowing down.

At the moment, I'm taking the next semester off from uni (tommorow apparently is the first day of semester, lol, who knew) and IF I go back, it won't be back to engineering.

So in the meantime I'm working fulltime as a labourer, but it's wearing me pretty thin, that and my position at work is pretty precarious, I'm getting 'laid off' kinda-sorta for the next month till work picks up.

So, with all this in mind and the fact that I have savings, no girlfriend, no kids, no mortage, no study I've decided I need to fuck off from Sydney for a bit and see some more of the world, meet some new people, gain some new experiences and most of all, some new perspectives.

Anyway so, I'm probably going to be abroad somewhere around May-June for a month or two or more. I'll defo be making my way round Europe. Not sure what I wanna do, or how I wanna do it, or really anything for that matter. I'm starting from square one here.

So, I'm looking for:

a) Folks who wanna catch up, show me around, introduce me to folks, let me crash at theirs, etc etc etc. let your imagination run wild
b) suggestions of places to go, ways to go about it, shit to do
c) what ever else the fuck you like, just say reply with some pointless bullshit

so yeah

Nic.

If you give me enough advanced warning if you come to Amsterdam I would surely like to meet up. My house is small so if you stay longer than one or two days you probably better of in hostel than on my couch but by all means let's meet up.

Well, I've got a small house, 2 kids and no spare room, so crashing is probably out, but if you're in the vicinity I'd certainly like to meet you face-to-face. I'll try not to be confusing by having too many names on the day.

I met Devrim recently and we're both still alive, so that's something.

I live with the folks at the moment so I can't offer you a couch. Hope to be getting to travel myself around June...I've applied to live in Russia or Estonia.

But for now I can suggest...

Lake Balaton in Hungary is absolutely the place to go. Most Magyars vacate to the Adriatic instead so it's not immensely crowded as you'd expect. And there are some really cheap and vintage hotels in the Balaton area that have maintained their Soviet atmosphere- very fun. Really great vineyards everywhere.

Also, depending on your financial situation, Helsinki is gorgeous in May. Sun never sets! But living expenses in Finland since the Euro are up the whazoo so it may not be ideal.

I was abit worried about travelling to the UK that time of year cos of the Olympics, I think if I went I'd have to be early on in my trip.

Is there anything much worth seeing/doing in the UK? I mean tbh, it was kinda last on my list to come see, even though it's probably where most of the folks I want to catch up with are living.

The Aussie dollar is real strong, so it's no as bad as you might think for me to travel to scandanavia. Too be honest, i'd never really thought about visiting scandanavia. it seems like a swell place to live, just quiet and like nothing even fucking goes wrong there, but what's there to do touristy and stuff...?

If you like the sea and all that stuff, than it's nice to visit the coast in summer (especially early or late summer, so June and September) all the more since you could easily visit some nice towns with historical town parts intact (for instance, Split, Zadar and the islands). You can also party hard there if that's what you're after :)

But then again if you do that you'd be missing out on my sofa :tt2::D
Summer in the capital is not so nice. The city is pretty much empty, though there's still some stuff to see and do (so the best idea, if you got the cash, would be to spend two or three days in the capital and then head for the coast). If you're going, just drop me a PM and you have a nice sofa waiting for you :)
