What are your favorite Irish groups? For me,I'd say its a tie between The Pogues and The Wolfetones.

The Wolfetones' "A Nation Once Again" always chokes me up.
Non-political Irish music that I like... I guess U2 and The Boomtown Rats. Boomtown Rats are my sexy beasts.

The Pogues, Blood or Whiskey, Christy Moore, Moving Hearts, PAtrick Street, Andy Irvine, Planxty, Bothy Band, Stiff Little Fingers, Paranoid Visions, Striknien DC, Sinead O'Connor, Luka Bloom, Fatima Mansions, Undertones, Steam Pig, Woods Band, Ron Kavana...
For Victor: Thin Lizzy, Van Morrison, Horselips, Rory Gallagher, Gary Moore, Skid Row (Gary Moore's old band not the cheesy US metal band).

Sure Black 47 are Irish, Larry is anyway.
Here's another one to add: Marxman, they were a really cool hip hop trio.
find their CD "33 Revolutions per Minute".

Flogging Molly? You really should listen to more Irish music.

I hate to get started on the self-righteous poser shit but flogging molly are californians, the lead singer used to front an 80's hair metal band.

Note to above - only the female singer out of Marxman is Irish, the others are Bristolian.
My faves: Wolfe Tones of course, plus Shebeen, Eire Og, Charlie and the Bhoys and The Irish Brigade.
Best song: Fenian Record Player, Black and Tans, James Connolly, Sean South, On the One Road...so many...and I'm not even Irish!

Here's one for you: The Men of No Property aka The People of No Property. Hard to find but worth getting if you can. I believe Smithsonian Folkways still has their stuff available. They were probably the best of the Irish Rebel bands, not the best known, but the best.

Shut up.Can't I just listen to music and enjoy it without having to get into a bunch of other bands? For your info I actually have listened to the pogues and I came to the understanding that they blow. However,I do have a lot of respect for the chieftans.

Touchy, touchy!
Let me get this straight, the Pogues blow but Flogging Molly are great?
I don't know what Pogues you've been listening to but they blow away anything Flogging Molly has ever done. Dave King should go back to 80's cheese metal where he fucking belongs. By the way that song "Another Pile of Bricks" or whatever it is called on the new FM cd is a complete ripoff of "Turkish Song of the Damned" by the Pogues.
Shane MacGowan taking a shit beats Flogging Molly at their best.

huh.I listened to their whole greatest hits cd and one other and they were atrocious!the songs had horrible backrounds, trust me I know i play a lot of traditional irish music on the fiddle.Shane MacGowan's voice is a piece of shit. The most boring thing I've ever heard since a Al gore speech.

I'm not going to argue with you. I play music too, as do firneds of mine. Not only do they recognize the genius of the Pogues/Shane but so do countless others all over the world including people like Christy Moore, Joe Strummer (RIP), Sinead O'Connor, The Dubliners, Billy Bragg, I could go one but I won't. Plus the Pogues have influenced countless other bands both good and bad (Flogging Molly come to mind).
Dave King and FM will never come close to such greatness.

Yeah the Tossers are cool, light years ahead of Flogging Molly.
There's also the Skels.
The Dropkicks are cool but they just aren't the same without Mike singing for them.

You're right on regarding U2, never really listened to the Cranberries. I covered the Undertones, but I've never listened to Ash.

I thought Al Barr was the singer after Mike left. If it is someone else I'd have to re-evaluate. But Mike is way better than Al.

I just don't think Al is a very good singer. Mike could sing a ballad and he could rock out. Al's voice mostly seems suited for hardcore and some DKM songs really require singing.
And don't worry "honest intellectual" I'll certainly defend your right to say U2 sucks ass!!

Ah, Enigmaenigmaenigma, The Cranberries are irritating and emotionless, face it. What are your opinions on U2?
If you're checking out Ash, 1977 is really the only album worth listening to.

The Cranberries are great. Try listening to the song Zombie or ode to my family.
What are your opinions on U2?
Boring with religious connertations.

U2 are possibly the most overrated band ever, not just in Ireland but worldwide.
And SonofScargill,
Do not even joke about that wanker.
