View Full Version : Nationalist punk bands in the UK

I've been thinking about if/when me and my band start playing gigs (properly) and travel to different parts of the country to play, and worrying about all of these "fight for England" knobs that have taken what was originally anti-racist music and turned it into some stupid nationalist shit. Not being completely aryan ourselves and having some left wing themes in our lyrics, the thought of these nazi bands got me thinking. I know that in London it's probably not a massive problem due to the amount of non-whites living in most areas, but have any Brits here come across any significant numbers of nazi skinheads/bands in their areas? On the contrary, does anyone know of any areas where non-racist skins are usually found? My first guess would be Camden where all the punks like to chill.

I doubt you'll get on shows with with the few remaining RAC type bands.

lol playing with them isn't my worry, it's more the story that bands like Crass had with the National Front lot storming in on a gig. I suppose redskins and nazi skins stay clear of each other nowadays though.

I can reply a bit more later (I need to get to my bed as I am on anti-fascist action tomorrow), but the nationalist punk scene is tiny and almost entirely driven out in most cities. These bands don't really mix with the legit scene as they know they'll get confronted and are often confined to the tiniest of tiny out of town pub circuits.
You won't encounter trouble if you know your scene and do shows with the DIY promoters and organisers in the towns your playing. They're not too hard to ifnd - look at Collective Zine for instance.

Yeah, I know they're pretty small, but I thought that maybe because of that they'd be quite concentrated. As for mixing, I saw an Oi page on Facebook (shitty racist Oi) posting Sham 69 and 4-Skins songs which confused me. Mind you, they too probably get a bit sick of hearing their own kind grunting "I WANT MA COUNTREH BACK" in every song.

Didn't the 4Skins have a nationalist in the band at some point? Most of the 80s British oi bands did...
Anyways, its not the 80s anymore man. You have next to nothing to worry about.

One of the guitarists did go on to join (or form, not sure) Skrewdriver, but I don't know if he was a nationalist when he was with the 4-Skins. Skrewdriver weren't a Nazi band from the beginning though, anyway.

It's so pathetic when people have this "meh, whatever" attitude towards nazism. Well, at least he's gone now. I was thinking of doing a parody cover of Smash the IRA -- Crash the I-(CA)R-A... get it?

It doesn't effect them. They aren't minorities, and WWII is slowly being purged from the collective conscience. Look at the Marines in Afghanistan posing with the SS runes.

I'm at school now so I can't watch the video, but still I had a good laugh at the title.
