If you could go back in time and give a child/teenage you 1 piece of advice, what would it be?

Adapt to the material conditions better.

To be honest, don't want to sound like an arrogant asshole, but I don't think there's any advice I would've given myself. I mean, my life could probably have been better but I'm happy (well not really) with what it is now and I couldn't imagine it any other way. If I had to give myself one piece of advice, it would be "DON'T ANNOY YOUR BROTHER" because one time when I was about 13, I annoyed my brother and he threw a book in my eye and it caused permenant muscle damage so my left eye is smaller than my right. True story.
Don't join the SPUSA.
I'd love to hear the story behind that one

I've posted it a few times, but the short reason is, it was the main cause of my burnout, and I was left totally betrayed by the party (got kicked out), and that betrayal/burnout also caused my friends to give up on communism, which depressed me further, and contributed to my joining the army.

Size 11 winkle-pickers are not a good look. Seriously, they are a danger to oneself and passers-by. They belong to minstrels in the middle ages or the points curled up in Arabian fantasies.

Maybe waste less time? I don't know, I should have enjoyed childhood.

Don't bother arguing with local conservatives/quasi-fascists -- something I continue to do for some odd reason. I'm from a small town inhabited exclusively by white Bible-thumping Republicans, so arguing with literally everybody I know can get exhausting and, in my experience, never actually accomplishes anything. It sucks being the village communist. :(

don't take anybodies advice or base any of your actions off of what other people (especially people who legitimately do think they're helping you) suggest. don't get actively involved in leftist politics. skip school. don't do your homework. learn to be content without close friendships/relationships.

Say no when your drummer tries spooning with you in bed when you're drunk & high at the bassist's party. I feel violated whenever I think of it...

Take accutane treatment at first opportunity, stay fit and do some sports like soccer and tennis, get a part-time job or go to some night-trade school (so you'll have a good part-time job while at college instead of being broke), learn to play the guitar, don't waste your time with local activism, smoke more marijuana, do more psychedelics, etc.

How would that play out? Would it be like the Terminator? Tell yerself to use more drugs, return to the future. Find out yer O,D''d five years ago.

Could yer return again? Tell yerself not to be such a twat???
Wish I knew the answer....I was nearly there, just ran out of graph paper.

Don't drink or take drugs alone. Cheating on your girlfriend isn't cool. Be less ambitious. Stay in touch with your friends.

Continue doing sport, write more, don't be such a dick to people in your teenage years, actually save money... my younger self would probably say "yeah, sounds like a good idea" then not bother out of apathy.

Don't play MMO's.
You see, I kind of agree with this, I mean MMO's did have a bad impact on my social life, but damn I have so many amazing memories on WoW, I wouldn't trade them for anything. My social life IRL sucked so it was amazing for me to be able to go on WoW and have so much fun and make friends without meeting them face to face. The strange thing is that I still keep in touch with some of my old WoW friends via facebook even though I haven't played with most of them for at least 2 years, call me sad but I have more motivation to keep in touch with them than I have to keep in touch with my old high school friends.
Stay in touch with your friends.
This. I'm definitely going to make an effort to do this even though I haven't been doing it. All of my closest friends left school at 16 so I never see them around :(

Well luckily I'm not planning to use the well known overdose type drugs (well, not often at at least). Weed, LSD, shrooms, salvia and all that are the only real drugs I can imagine doing. Psychadelics ftw.

Knowing myself, the only drugs I use are mostly cannabis and psychedelics. Do more of these indeed.

Never, ever, ever forget why you left home and high school acquaintances. So don't come back! Not a lot will have changed and crap will still be crap if you return. By the way there is no guarantee that you can get out again if you do.

I'd teach myself the ways of masturbation far earlier than I learned on my own.
But seriously, I'd tell myself to not make up stories in my head to compensate for inaction. If I didn't allow myself to be deluded by imagined alter-egos, I could have started being productive far sooner.
