What does everyone think about him? I imagine the ML's draw a lot of influence from him because of his analysis of national liberation, but what do the others think of him?

Fr-an-z Fa-no-n is how i do it but it might be wrong.
basically he connected colonial structures to the gangs, drugs, and activities of the lumpen i grew up around. i would argue he may validate the aforementioned a little TOO much but his work on how colonialism impacts individual self-comprehension is super interesting.

I don't think anybody - Marxist or otherwise - can overlook Fanon, no. There are certainly issues that have to be seriously addressed, most obviously his existentialism and his humanism, yet his contribution is immensely valuable. Simply enough. Countless thinkers have already succeeded in drawing this contribution beyond the limits of his time, in fact, one need only integrate these developments satisfactorily into a broader radical framework...

It's a French name, so the final n would go unpronounced, just a long o there.

Just tried to start a decent thread on him: http://www.revleft.com/vb/fanon-and-humanism-t167762/index.html
It's pronounced with the final N -- not Fan Oe ..
Homi Bhaba has a very interesting reading of Fanon. I have drawn a lot on the following http://prelectur.stanford.edu/lecturers/bhabha/location2.html
Fanon suggests that 'there is not merely one Negro, there are Negroes'.

Black Skin, White Masks
The Wretched of the EarthThese are the two that I've read. Are A Dying Colonialism and Toward the African Revolution worthy reads?

I would think it worth spending more time on the secondary literature. I used to live with a Fanon scholar & they focused on the two main books.
Ato Sekyi-Otu`s Fanon's Dialectic of Experience sparked a lot of conversation here.

i thought 'a dying colonialism' was pretty interesting, especially if you've read other stuff about the algerian revolution

Interestingly enough, it was White Skin, Black Masks, which kind of lead me towards more of the communist left/nihilist communist positions. But I think I kind of extrapolated Fanon's commentary on the way colonized people adapt colonial culture, to the way that people under capitalism adapt capitalist culture/capitalist absorbs everything including movements against it.
I'm sure Fanon would be pissed.

I'm unfamiliar with his works, but by the looks of a simple Wikipedia page, he seems to be someone I'd probably enjoy reading.

Reading Black Skin, White Masks right now, it's pretty amazing.
We shall have no mercy for the former governors, the former missionaries.
To us, the man who adores the Negro is as "sick" as the man who abominates him.
Conversely, the black man who wants to turn his race white is as miserable as he who preaches hatred for the whites.
In the absolute, the black is no more to be loved than the Czech, and truly what is to be done is to set man free.

There's a decent biographical film about him available on YouTube. The title is "Black Skin White Masks", though it covers all of his works.
