It seams obvious that the Socialist party is gonna take over and Hollande is gonna beat Sarkozy, the unfortuante thing is that the National front seams to be rising in popularity, something which is happening all over europe (right wing nationalistic parties gaining), at the same time the Left Front has somthing.

I dunno, I personally don't have any faith in the French Socialist party anymore, at least under the right wing leadership.

Anyone from france with more insight?

Yeah unfortunately le Front National got a boost when Marine Le Pen took over from her father... And is being fed by the same types of right wing fascism that fueled Anders Brevek in Norway and all the right wingers here in the US and Canada.

Agreed the socialist party is socialist in name only... Just look at the 'socialist' party in Greece. however you should keep an eye on third parties like Nouveau Parti anticapitaliste or the NPA and see how they end up in the election

However it turns out the French people will be better represented than the US.

I don't really understand why anyone would have anything good to say about the French Socialist party tbh

A critical (euphemistically speaking) vote for the Jean-Luc Melenchon, the Parti de gauche, and the whole Front de gauche is in order:

That's unfortunately what happens when the economy goes bad, people begin to shift to either the left or the right, or they do something totally illogical and try for more capitalism (paulites)

The french socialist party has many real left wing elements and factions, unfortunately the right wing of the party seams to always have the pull.

Its like of like the few progressives in the democratic party (US) being silenced by the rest of the party.

Marine Le Pen actually seems to be gaining success at trying to make the National Front a "respectable" party to vote for, while her father is on trial for saying the Nazi occupation of France was "not inhumane" she's describing Nazism as an "abomination". Kind of like what the BNP are doing here in the UK, only more successfully, doubt much has changed though; just racists in suits
