Agreed.
Besides, last year I did have a significant other on Valentine's Day, and it was terrible. More pressure than being single. (Maybe because we had been dating for 2 weeks and he already wanted to buy me something expensive and spend every waking minute together and didn't understand that that made me uncomfortable...)

Today is my sisters birthday so I always have a reason not to worry about the whole "am I with someone thing". And her birthday is always on the same day as Valentines day, every year!

It's not so much the day itself that I dislike, it's the fact that on Valentine's day I get constantly reminded that I'm single :(

I got a single red rose and home made card.........from a 10yr old girl.

Turning on the sprinkler....whilst I was fixing the Electrical Generator. It is true I was temporarily blinded and you had left the garden rake out many times before. Only this time I couldn't see it....swinging up and hitting me in the genitals. My language was appalling.....no 10yr old should ever be subject to that. How did I end up in the fish pond though, I recall your tiny hand guiding me. Before passing out. You acted in a very mature way, when you discovered my mobile was not working(it still doesn't). You ran off to get another. Imagine waiting for the sweet sounds of a siren , only to hear in dialect "sir is drunk again" and laughter. I was past caring whether they were laughing with or at me. Drifting in and out, I was aware of the student nurses pushing into te throng. An argument developed was Sir having a stroke or heart attack or just plain rat arsed. My grand-daughter denied thrice all knowledge of how I got into that state. Various questionable medical procedures were applied. Punching my breast one of the nurses started kissing me, perhaps my age group can't quite accept 100% the idea.Male/male. Mercifully the sound of sirens before slipping into welcome oblivion. Coming round in a private room at the hospital,my first thought was to get out quick. My sight restored I could see my grand-daughter clutching a bible, rosaries and sobbing. Wifey asked how the rake had got broken. A number of ill considered comments about grog and fixing electrical gadgets, from Wifey and daughter double act. My kitchen started filling up with relatives, they pointed to the calendar, it was indeed the 13th. Grand-daughter poured me a mountain coffee she had brewed. I kept stumm about how it all happened. She put the liquidizer on to the table smiled with the face of an angel....mango shake "your favourite"daddy-dodge" my senses dulled or perhaps just fatalistic, "THE LID!"...too late. Covered from navel to eyebrows not a drip on anyone else. With only 2hrs to go until 14th I stayed in my room for the rest of the evening.

Robert burns would have his work cut out to put into verse my feelings about that red, red rose.
