But Hey, Now We Hate Them!

I personally cant stand prejudice. What the hell can make one person better than another? I just dont get it. Most people dont like prejudice, because most people have been raised by those that fought in the Civil Rights movement and others born after, so we have been taught that hating one race over another is bad. Or that one sex over another is wrong. I agree completely. So if we all know prejudice is a horrible thing, why are so many people committing acts of it all around us?
I speak mainly of prejudice against homosexuals. Personally, I am not a homosexual, but I dont see what wrong with it, all sex is really the same in the most basic respects. Anyway, I just dont understand why someone thinks homosexuals are such horrible people. Shouldnt we have taken a hint from a long time ago, that all forms of prejudice are bad?
This topic was brought to my mind recently at my somewhat local high school, while attending Government Class. A discussion arose concerning slavery and segregation in the early days of the United States. My classmates, like myself, were having a hard time fathoming what would cause our ancestors to dislike the African Americans and all other foreign immigrants (Whos the alien Pilgrim? Eh?) . No one has been in North America since the dawn of time, with the possible, exception of the Native American people or American Indians. These signs of hate disgusted my classmates, but I questioned how they would feel if I were openly homosexual, and most would have hated or at least made fun of me. Made fun of me for what though? For having certain differing opinions than that of the majority?
There are plenty of other signs of lingering prejudice all over the U.S, and its not just directed at sexuality, races, and genders. Teenagers have bad reputations; most of my friends have at one time or another been kicked out of an area or store for a minor offense. Prejudice for age, Prejudice against the disabled, Prejudice directed at class rankings in society, and in so many other forms. Why? Why cant we get over one of the most idiotic and basic problems in human history? It just shows just how little we have evolved from the tribal and instinctive ancestors that spawned us.

As far as i am concerned it stems from a lack of understanding of other people. Whether it is of their religion, culture or beliefs.
I have been discriminated against often because of my (perceived) religion and in my younger days, i am ashamed to say, i have discriminated against others. People of Irish decent (like myself) in Scotland now talk about Asian Scots in the same way that Irish Scots used to be referred to. It is uncommon but still it does happen.
It really makes my blood boil that people who know how this sort of prejudice feels can be stupid enough to be as ignorant themselves.

Prejudice of any kind is born of fear, ignorance and above all, being devoid of any understanding or appreciation of the concept of respect - in its fullest meaning.

the main cause of prejudice is the corporate media. they wish to divide and conquer us. they encourage us to blame working class oppression on immigrants, homosexuals for aids and the terrorist attacks on the muslim faith. they are using fear and prejudice to mask their own guilt and crimes against humanity. have any british comrades read the sun recently?
