Over the past several years, the Justice Department has increasingly attempted to criminalize what is clearly protected political speech by prosecuting numerous individuals (Muslims, needless to say) for disseminating political views the government dislikes or considers threatening. The latest episode emerged on Friday, when the FBI announced the arrest and indictment of Jubair Ahmad, a 24-year-old Pakistani legal resident living in Virginia, charged with “providing material support” to a designated Terrorist organization (Lashkar-e-Tayyiba (LeT)).

What is the “material support” he allegedly gave? He produced and uploaded a 5-minute video to YouTube featuring photographs of U.S. abuses in Abu Ghraib, video of armored trucks exploding after being hit by IEDs, prayer messages about “jihad” from LeT’s leader, and — according to the FBI’s Affidavit — “a number of terrorist logos.” That, in turn, led the FBI agent who signed the affidavit to assert that ”based on [his] training and experience, it is evident that the video . . . is designed as propaganda to develop support for LeT and to recruit jihadists to LeT.” The FBI also claims Ahmad spoke with the son of an LeT leader about the contents of the video and had attended an LeT camp when he was a teenager in Pakistan. For the act of uploading that single YouTube video (and for denying that he did so when asked by the FBI agents who came to his home to interrogate him), he faces 23 years in prison.

It sounds more like a LeT propaganda video than an anti-war video. LeT is the Islamist group which massacred a bunch of people in Bombay (and made it a point to find the few Jewish people in the city to make sure they were dead). Their goal is to cause a massive sectarian war between Muslims and Hindus in the Indian subcontinent. LeT is no better than a fascist org. I'm not defending the decision by the goverment or anything but calling it an "anti-War youtube video" and not propaganda for a Salafist terrorist organization is a little misleading.

Of course, it is telling that the US government gives the KKK or neo-Nazi groups the right to spread their propaganda. Also it's not a particularly new thing for the US government to go after people during wartime who it thinks are spreading "dangerous" messages regardless of its own legal system.

Dear friends, and this is more complicated than most people think. You know most people in this world have a *personalist* view of politics. And a very simplistic black and white mentality. For example in USA people blamed Bush for all the problems of the USA and right now they blame Obama and the Wall Street bankers. But you see millions of USA citizens are also to blame for the fascist police dictatorship of Patriot Act, TSA agents at airports, economic terrorism, and the totalitarianism of the US government. What I mean is that even middle class US citizens like the class of America that shops at Sears, JC Penney, eats at Olive Garden and drives luxury expensive cars. This class is not rich like Donald Trump, Madonna and Bill Gates. But at the same time, they live a relatively happy life, and they *benefit* from the capitalist system, becuase their basic needs and non-basic needs like vacation at Disney world, movie theaters, partying are fulfilled.

So in a way the middle class (I mean the real middle class like doctors, lawyers, yuppies) are very very anti-change, their philosophy of life is a life like the TV series "Leave it to Beaver" "The Brady Bunch" and the traditional American Baptist Calvinist Family of "Cleanliness is next to godliness"

That ultra-Reaganist middle class is very very ANTI-CHANGE, they are even anti-Ron Paul, is very very ANTI-CHANGE, anti-PROTESTS, they even blame the Occupy Wall Street Protestors for misdeameanors such as littering the streets and little things like that in many bourgeoise news websites like the websites of CBS, NBC and ABC

So changing a country from capitalism to socialism where millions of people in the USA are so ANTI-CHANGE AND SO OBSOLETE, AND LIVING LIKE LEAVE IT TO BEAVER AND THE BRADY BUNCH TV SERIES, is going to be real hard. Thanks

The thing you have to remember about the middle class in the US is that it has been shrinking for decades. Almost every middle class person is in danger of becoming working class, if they haven't already. So you are right that it is not just the bourgeoisie who are protecting the status quo, but this support is temporary. Sometimes people just don't see what's happening until they've lost it all.
