the pogues make me miss london so much - their songs are full of observations that only a "londoner" could truly understand/appreciate (which is funny when you consider most people assume they're simply an "oirish" band):

XNQpMCxh-ww
vCITD_Hi3tU

PSi4CDANuUY

lot's more makes me really miss london
i suppose the clash deserve a mention in this regard too plus lots of uk hip hop (hip hop in general i suppose)
¿Que?

Hip hop tends to have a lot of geographic and biographic information. Nothing readily comes to mind. Correction, a lot of things come to mind, but nothing really great.
Maybe this one:

my whole conception of LA is based on:
- that song (and g-funk in general)
- gta san Andreas
- john cassavette's films
- charles bukowski and john fante
makes it seems like heaven to me

Argentinian folk music (folclore) is also loaded with regional references. FOr example, many songs pay homage to either Tucuman province (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3fzOoDdRWk), Santiago del Estero (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OGNteSkyKcc) (not to be confused with Santiago Chile), and Cordoba (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7hmX5Owypmo) (Note that the name of this band is los del Suquia, which translates to those from the Suquia, a river in Cordoba) provinces found in the north of the country (among others).
EDIT: You just have to know a little Spanish to catch the references.

William Basinski's stuff and a lot of Flying Saucer Attack reminds me a lot of the rural area I live in. The Disintegration Loops in particular reminds me of the bright-but-still-cloudy days we get at the beginning of spring and during the fall and Flying Saucer Attack reminds me of warm nights driving through the woods with a light-polluted sky in front of me and abandoned houses blurring past.
but i guess that's sort of a personal thing

Basinski seems really urban to me but that's probably because i associate him with new york

Half the time I hear musicians from NYC, I can tell they're new yorkers before even knowing
Same with Boston
Japan too

Country music makes me think of the rural USA, bluegrass music makes me think of Kentucky, the blues has regional conotations (aka "delta blues", Chicago blues, etc.), Stiff Little Fingers makes me think of Northern Ireland during the mid-1970's, etc.
