Now i consider myself an orthodox Marxist with heavy Trotskyist influence but im not willing to call myself a full blown Trotskyist for one reason: the idea of a vanguard party holding power after leading the revolution, I feel this goes against the 2ND chapter of the communist manifesto and starts to form a separate class outside of the proletariat, thus giving way to future class conflict. If i could be enlightened on to the exactly how this is to be avoided, i would truly appreciate it. I know there are many more experienced Leninist and Trotskyist members here and would truly appreciate your expertise on this( i have only been studding Marxist-Leninist theory for 3 years and am rather young i i hope you can pardon any ignorance)

I generally agree with this perspective: http://solidarity-us.org/sot

Here's my take on it....
I'm more than a little surprised that so many are so concerned about a vanguard organization's potential for "hanging onto power" after a revolution is completed. In my conceptualization the vanguard would be all about mobilizing and coordinating the various ongoing realtime aspects of a revolution in progress, most notably mass industrial union strategies and political offensives and defenses relative to the capitalists' forces.
*By definition* a victorious worldwide proletarian revolution would *push past* the *objective need* for this airport-control-tower mechanism of the vanguard, for the basic fact that there would no longer be any class enemy to coordinate *against*. Its entire function would be superseded by the mass revolution's success and transforming of society.

From what I understand how Marx defined the Vangaurd Party was that it would be made of the most advanced part of the working class. Proletariat leading the class to power. It stands to reason that the dictatorship of the proletariat would mean the dictatorship of the chosen leadership of the proletariat, the vangaurd party. The only way to stem power abuse and backsliding on the revolution is not more parties but vibrant democracy and debate in keeping with the proletariat class characteristics and democratic centralism.

The way Solidarity defined it was the as the most most conscious active layer of the working class. See my link above.
