The just demonstrations of the people against a fraudulent election within Iran’s Islamic Republic continue, with cries for freedom, for “Down with Dictators!” and for an end to bloodshed. But, all slogans in favor of Moosavi indicate that the passion, excitement, and anger of the overwhelming majority of people against exploitation and oppression is being manipulated in order to perpetuate the Islamic Republic in one form or another.
Domestic and international reactionaries seek carefully to hijack this movement in order to pursue their own interests. We have already experienced the historical drama of the February 1979 Revolution and the creation of the illusion that a theocratic leadership is capable of leading the march to freedom and social justice. That illusion was quickly dispelled. But at least that revolution had some merits that the religious forces under the leadership of Khomeini stood against the monarchy and joined the resistance, alongside the relentless struggle of the workers, students, freedom loving people and the Left political forces. Finally, the monarchy was swept into the trash bin of history. But the present waves of protest (unprecedented in the 30- year life of the Islamic Republic), are being led mainly by discredited individuals like Rafsanjani, Khatami, Mousavi and Karroubi: sworn supporters of the Islamic Republic regime. Their hands remain stained by the blood of workers, students, women, journalists, writers and oppressed national minorities slaughtered during their time in power. They are no less guilty of slaughter than the hardliners. And it is in this new historical comedy That they demand the freedom and social justice loving peoples to be sacrificed for the abhorrent goals of different factions of the Islamic Republic. The bourgeois factions involved in the recent election are never willing to respect and accept the freedom and the demands of the overwhelming majority for the right to self determination. Why not? Because they have already proclaimed themselves to be god’s messengers; the only time they think of the people is when, due to a rivalry amongst factions, they need the power of the masses in order to defeat the concurrent faction.
Around the time of the 1979 revolution, Shahriar, the famous Azeri composer of lyric poems, said in a meeting: “I am afraid that this one is also a game, and that the people will once again become a confused herd”.
No uprising or rebellion which has lacked a conscious vanguard leadership has ever been able to permanently impact class relations and lead to the freedom of impoverished and oppressed people. The just protests of the people regarding fraudulent activities in the recent election must not be allowed to be merely the pretext for bringing another Islamic faction to power (which is represented by Mousavi) – resulting in the perpetuation of the Islamic Republic and its pro-west tendencies.
The repression of the protests and the retention of Ahmadi-Nejad as the head of the government is simply the continuation of the trampling of the rights of workers and laborers. It is the continuation of an unbridled dictatorship whose aim is to safeguard the Islamic Republic system.
There are those who have no misgivings toward both ruling factions in Iran, who want “tactically” to take the side of Mousavi and the like. They have themselves the illusion that without having the trust of the demonstrators and going through an independent protest action, once again this activity will benefit the narrow interests of a ruling faction, and like before, the overwhelming majority of the people and the masses will become the canon fodder of the ruling factions. “Action for the sake of action and not for the purpose of achieving goals” is a deviation which the communist forces must avoid.
In the mean time, the main mistake is not on the part of the people who have participated in the demonstrations and is not whether they are against or for the government of Ahmadi-Nejad; On the contrary, it is essentially among all the political forces who claim to be advocates of the working class. But, they “advocate” promoting deviation rather than unity among the working class for the overthrow of the capitalist rulers! And until this serious defect in the ranks of revolutionary forces has not been remedied, the existing mass movements in Iran will continue to be exploited by the ruling, exploitive and oppressive factions of the reactionary regime.
The independency of the struggle of the working class and laborers as distinguished by their protests, their slogans, and the separation of the rank of their protest, slogans and revolutionary demands must be separated from the ranks of the reactionary ruling forces; that is the kind of lesson that must be learned from the present struggle. In contrast to the nonsensical slogans of the supporters of Mousavi in the present protests, the revolutionary slogans of the masses of workers and laborers must be the loudest, so the people who are still deluded about Mousavi’s faction can awaken, and the revolutionary forces for action.
PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS ARE NOT THE PATH TO THE LIBERATION OF THE PEOPLE!
THE ISLAMIC REPUBLIC AND THE REIGN OF CAPITALISM, IN ANY FORM, ARE REACTIONARY!
THE ONLY SOLUTION IS THE OVERTHROW OF THE REIGN OF CAPITALISM AND THE CONSOLIDATION OF SOCIALISM IN IRAN!
