The correct response to some asshole calling a girl a dyke is for her to reply, "you're damn right, and I get more pussy than you, needle dick!"
That's assuming she actually is a lesbian. If she's not, then it's a good bluff anyway.

I'm always surprised at how people seem to think that only guys are homophobic. probably because gay boys in liberal schools have a lot of girl friends. girls can be wicked homophobic too though.
and the point from that part of the article is that just telling her comebacks and shit to say back is basically saying that bullying is legitimate.
anyway this article is pretty heart wrenching

Yeah girls are just as bad as guys as far as bullying goes. When I was really young (like, around 8 or 9 or so) I witnessed a pretty bad bullying incident on my school bus, and the main "ringleader" of the bullies was a teenage girl. Man, they berated this other teenager, it was bad. I didn't really realize how fucked up it was at the time, though, because it wasn't happening to me and I was a lot younger. It's too bad that many people only realize how fucked up bullying is later in life...and some people never do, as evident by that article.
Anti-gay backlash was instant. Minnesota Family Council president Tom Prichard blogged that Justin's suicide could only be blamed upon one thing: his gayness. "Youth who embrace homosexuality are at greater risk [of suicide], because they've embraced an unhealthy sexual identity and lifestyle," Prichard wrote. Anoka-Hennepin conservatives formally organized into the Parents Action League, declaring opposition to the "radical homosexual" agenda in schools. Its stated goals, advertised on its website, included promoting Day of Truth, providing resources for students "seeking to leave the homosexual lifestyle," supporting the neutrality policy and targeting "pro-gay activist teachers who fail to abide by district policies."
Asked on a radio program whether the anti-gay agenda of her ilk bore any responsibility for the bullying and suicides, Barb Anderson, co-author of the original "No Homo Promo," held fast to her principles, blaming pro-gay groups for the tragedies. She explained that such "child corruption" agencies allow "quote-unquote gay kids" to wrongly feel legitimized. "And then these kids are locked into a lifestyle with their choices limited, and many times this can be disastrous to them as they get into the behavior which leads to disease and death," Anderson said. She added that if LGBT kids weren't encouraged to come out of the closet in the first place, they wouldn't be in a position to be bullied.
Terrible people.

Much of the time it is for profits rather than the actual faith itself.Decades back it was unheard of for religious persons to engage in any sort of political activity.Yet,with the arrival of the modern christian right, after the fall of the USSR, things have essentially turned into a disgusting fest for religious figureheads to see who can raise the most money. After communism "failed" the right needed a new scapegoat so queers instantly became the new "evil."

I don't think that's new though. Didn't they used to conflate or correlate Communism and Homosexuality to some extent? I vaguely remember some McCarthyite quote about it but I can't find it now. Anyway, queers were always in their crosshairs; they definitely used to conflate Homosexuality and Paedophilia (and some still do...).

Indeed they were always in the religious right's cross hairs, I was simply stressing that after the Soviet Union collapsed the attacks increased hundred-fold.The radical right enjoys to conflate everything to a singular entity but usually there is one,at any given time, that stands out as a more "demanding" issue.

It's good that someone's writing out this kind of thing and publicising it. But at the same time, a lot of LGBT(etc.) youth become exposed to such an overload of this media and think there's no way out but suicide. That's a dangerous message to be sending people when there are already too many people dying of suicide. I wish that the media could concern itself with yes, calling out the communities who allow this to happen, but at the same time show that the majority of youth going through this do live and love later on. (Not to say I think the It Gets Better campaign is doing any better, though.)
I'm by no means trying to minimise coverage of the discrimination, nor downplay the tragedy. However I intern with a suicide prevention coalition and there is extensive data proving that countless articles of such a hopeless nature give rise to even more deaths, which of course is counterproductive to the entire point of publicising it in the first place.

This is simply aweful... being a gay teenager myself I can totally relate, and I have attempted suicide before (too much of a coward... or is it too brave... to follow through). Regardless, the problem of homophobia is a problem that I feel will persist in the American psyche until the current system that encourages this kind of thinking is toppled. Its just... an an enraging fact... that so many have killed themselves because of what some idiot bigot said.

Umm, girls can be homophobic too. I don't know where you get the idea that all girls are acceptive of gays
In fact, I can name one female homophobe off the top of my head right now
But yeah, this is terrible. A perfect example of how religion is destroying America

I have female friends which claim that they have seen women be more homophobic than the men.Somewhat shocking when I heard it first hand because at the time I was still living under false conceptions.
No gender is more homophobic than the other, however. Both have the capacity to hate equally.
In fact, I can name one female homophobe off the top of my head right nowThis women comes to mind... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anita_Bryant
