"We have to support X country or we're traitors, regardless of what they do - sure they make mistakes like everyone but they are true existing X and we need to defend that no matter what, otherwise we have no right to call ourselves X "

Is it just me or do supporters of North Korea or the USSR sound identicle to Glenn beck or Bill O'Reilly when they talk about this stuff? The same hostile clambering to guilt trip us ("Good men/workers dying for your freedom/communism") the same old almost rabbid declarations of "if you disagree you're helping the terrorists/the bourgeoisie!", the same general idea that censorship and that old chestnut: This is reality, stop being so idealistic.

It's almost amusing in a sickening way that the Leninist left sticks to "it's nations" with loyality I can only compare to the blind conservatism and nationalism of random idiotic talk show hosts.

But hey, I'm automatically a counterrevolutionary, petit-bourgeoisie element dangerous to proletarian interests.

I know I'm basically gonna get floored for saying all this, but I've very rarely seen any of this said outright, my theory is because libertarian socialists don't want to get into a pissing contest with a group of people primarily made up of internet tough guys and bullies.

Polyphonic Foxes, We're probably of similar political sympathies. However, you wrote, "It's almost amusing in a sickening way that the Leninist left sticks to its nations ..."

I believe you want to refer to the "Stalinist left." Lenin surely would have nothing to do with the North Korean regime, for instance, and would sneer at the idea of "communist" China.

Some of the posters on left forums continually claim Lenin as a Stalinist--a good example of Stalinism, but not of Leninism. I'm certainly no expert on Lenin, but I see him as a highly intelligent, deeply committed Marxist revolutionary who had to deal with near-impossible conditions.

Many on these forums oppose Stalinism in all its guises. At its best, Stalinism represents an authoritarian theory of the state that is the polar opposite of Marx's communism. At its worst, Stalinism reflects the character of Stalin, himself.

There is an old movement saying that if Marx had lived under Stalin he wouldn't have lived long. Does anyone think this of Lenin?

You Irish finally got the Brits out. Now you can focus on that pesky capitalist system the Brits rode in on, and perhaps you can develop some new revolutionary moves for us all. We need them.

There is no USSR.
