View Full Version : Ezekiel101's Introduction To RevLeft

Hello Revleft, and thanks to those of you who are actually reading this. I am Ezekiel101. I am currently a high school student in Minnesota, in the increasingly fascist country of America. (yay SOPA!:crying:) Somedays I feel like I am surrounded by idiots, although I'm no Einstein myself. No one in my hometown ever talks about anything bigger than last Friday's football game, or so it feels like, and very few people ever get on the topics of philosophy. Facebook is the only place these things ever show up, and even then they are hidden power struggles. I have one good friend who, I swear, never shuts up. It is annoying, but his heart is in the right place(or should I say left place?). He and another friend of mine, whom showed me this forum, are constantly battling the manipulated masses who have choked down the capitalist "utopia" which is apparently better than any communistic country has ever been. (Those idiots fail to realize that there never has been a communist country.) Even my parents do not respect my opinions as my mother once said about left wing beliefs, "I refuse to give up my rights so that someone else can tell me what to do." *Shudder* I only have a crude understanding of left wing theory, part of the reason I joined this forum in the first place, but my beliefs about distribution probably show that I am a socialist: Everyone gets an equal share of everything, and not just their necessities are met. Please correct my terminology if this is incorrect. I apologize ahead of time for the misconceptions and inaccuracies I have about left wing philosophy, as I will undoubtedly screw something up somewhere. I hope to be able to contribute to this forum as a whole and that it will continue to educate me and refine my opinions.

Hey, welcome :)
I know how you feel about most of the things you're saying. My parents give me shit about my beliefs all the time, so I've stopped talking about them at home. (My father is the person that told me that communists don't eat candy )
This is a fantastic place to learn. I know I've learned a lot here in almost one year, but there's always more.
Small-town mentality can be horrible to deal with. I live in a horribly conservative area myself.
I hope you enjoy yourself here :D

Don't get too caught up in the tendencies. Dogmatic sectarianism is the greatest threat to the unity of the left. Remember that the best "-ism" is skepticism and that the apparent differences between most of the leftist tendencies are ultimately just differences on the definitions of terms.

Hmm,
I think everyone should get equal shares of the pie.
Everyone should work in the field they do best in.
Decisions based off of consensus.
sounds socialist, but I dunno....

This isn't what socialism is about. I'll pm you some info some time around, if you don't mind, I'll assure your introduced to revolutionary currents accordingly

thanks! From what I know, it is socialist, but again I am very crude in my understanding of philosophy.

Those things are advocated by many socialists, but adherence to those principles doesn't constitute socialism in itself. The fundamental basis of socialism is workers' control of the means of production. If you advocate this, you are a socialist.

Basically you have anarchists, left communists, Trotskyists, reformists and Stalinists. Within each of those are several currents.
