For starters, lets stop buying che guevara t shirts, anything that deals with a profit of his image in any capitalisitc way should be easily ignored. If you want to support the man then educate yourself the way he did. Education and change is at the front line of this beautiful movement. This goes out to all the so called CHE websites who have the nerve to even sell a single product of him. Eliminate all CHE GUEVARA Products not his spirit or revolutionary love ! peace and blessinge. Lets keep it moving people , we have alot of work to do, A LOT !

Without imagery, its hard to keep motivated and inspired. Notice how a piece of art can be a driving force for passion and creativity? I've been moved by art many times.
Why do you think the Catholic Church has idols and imagery of The Crucifix, Mary, Jesus and the Saints? Feasting on their images keeps faith alive.
Isnt Che's image on the side of the building of the La Plaza de la Revolucion?
I dont condone lining some Capitalists pockets with money and profits from the image of Che. I do condone making or accepting gifts with Che's image on it. I do condone this site selling merch to keep Che's memory and the spirit of the revolution alive.
I have been approached by inquiring curious people who want to know who Che is. This has happened many times because I was wearing my Che shirt.
PeruEcuadorBolivia, theres an old saying we AIDS activist used to say,
Fear= Silence
Silence = Death
Education is the best way to eliminate fear.
So, why shouldnt we have both the image and education?

I agree...
buying che shirts doesnt mean that we have become slaves of Capitalism but it means that we still have hope in a revolution and that che and his ideas will help us to achieve our goals...
wearing clothing with ches image isnt wrong if you trully believe in him..but some people wear them for the wrong reasons...they think its "cool" to wear a shirt with his image...
THAT'S WRONG <_<

PeruEcuadorBolivia, comrade, what you are suggesting is to remove his image from the media? That won't help at all, will it?
How would you disseminate information on Che without relating to his ultra-cool pop icon status? How would you interest people, potential leftists at that, without images that inspire and influence?
Or are you just angry with the merchandising? How would you suggest we get rid of that?

I have to agree with PeruEcuadorBolivia to a certain extent. We shouldn't buy products with his image being sold for profit but I wouldn't look down on products whose proceeds are used to support an organization or a good website.

i for one wouldn't be here if i didn't bought a shit with his face on it, i knew he was some leftist dude so i figured he can't be bad, but after i bought it i kinda felt bad wearing an icon without knowing who he is/was
che's picture is usefull, and inspirational + if you really want ché shirts, you can get a lot from organisations who sell them to aid cuba

This is definitely one of the conundrums faced by leftists in a capitalist society like the US.
As human beings, we will always have the need to express our viewpoints through visual mediums, whether it be art, television, or how we dress. Advocates of Che, or other leftist revolutionaries, or socialism/communism in general will likewise have these same needs regardless of what political, social, or religious ideas we adhere to. Clothing depicting Che (or a hammer & sickle, or some other symbol reflecting leftist values) will be always continued to be employed as a "silent statement" by those who wish to convey such messages of revolution, social justice, and/or socialism & communism.
However, our society has two groups who would corrupt such images, and those are 1) corporate capitialists who would exploit Che's likeness or some other anti-capitalist, pro-leftist/socialist/communist imagery in order to make a profit, and 2) ignorant people, quite common in the masses, who haven't the slightest clue as to what those images mean and simply buy such things in order to be a part of what is trendy, lining the pockets of the capitalists in the process. In order to solve these problems, committed anti-capitalist leftists who truly understand what the images of Che or Marx or socialism/communism in general and strive to follow such ideals these images convey must do two things to counter the threats of the two aforementioned groups. 1) We must strive to keep proliferation of such images limited to independent non-profit groups and individuals and away from large corporations through such methods as extensive activism, and 2) we must strive to teach others what Che, Marx, and symbols of "red politics" truly stand for to those committed to them.

i apologize for making a harsh statement like that without properly explaining myself. i guess i was a lil mad at the time and blindly just went on a website rampage..hahaha...anyway to get back to the point, i do agree with all of you about his image being used as a symbol, a recognition sort of speak of OUR revolution and of course his, i just dont want to see it tainted like all other popular movements of the opressed people of the world. take hip hop as a good example. i'm starting to see how powerful these shirts can be and i'm happy that it ignites even a spark of interest in this man who symbolizes the truth. Those t shirts being sold , or any product for that matter, for actual aid to Cuba, or to any type of progress of human life is totally acceptable, totally. again i just dont want to see this man's life , image ,or the revolution being tainted in anyway shape or form. Hasta Siempre !!. See you all in the matrix !

Jannez, Cuba is bad. You're just too young and ignorant to even know that. Your right, all the products are sold for profit. And we are against Capitalism!! Right??? That is soo stupid. Go live in Cuba, earn 5-30 dollars a month, be poor, be hungry, be trapped (not allowed to leave). Cuba is wonderful, that's why there is a wave of cubans jumping on rafts trying to find a way to go back to Cuba, right? Or is it Cubans trying to leave Cuba??? Hmmmm...

Che's face is what gave me motivation at my low point a few months ago. I had bombed an exam and was feeling low when I saw a face, I knew I had seen it before, so I picked it up (cover of a book) and read the title "Ernesto 'Che' Guevara, a life story". It was a really old, horrible magasine but the story of his struggle with capitalism is was drove me to study harder and actually try this year in school. And I have. I sometimes roam in the back of the library looking for the magasine that motivated me but it is of no more. Lost in a sea of old litterature never to be touched again....bastard....
If Che's face wasn't such a advertisement ad then it wouldn't of caught my eye and motivate me. So maybe using his face is a good thing? Might be capitalistic of us but it is a motivator and the story behind the man is even better.

OK, maybe it's not the best thing of the world to 'sell' Ché's image. But lets admit we all have a t-shirt or a poster somewhere and we are proud of it. I know I have both things, it doesn't make me fake to own them.
