View Full Version : Dinner and a Movie

Dinner and a movie every single day or night possible. This is how I'm going to try to flip my life back around to where I want it. I will attempt to cook something fantastic and will watch a movie or documentary afterwards. I'll post pictures here in this thread of the aftermath, regardless of how terrible it all turns out, and will list the recipe, cooking instructions and cost. I will also give a brief review of the food and don't worry I won't be making anything boring- I will try to make most of the recipes fairly interesting (and for the time being, all vegan). If the roommate and I decided to drink I will post pictures of those too and do a brief review(wine, beer, spirits). If I slice my finger off you'll all get to see it. If the cat, roommate or apartment catches on fire there will be pictures of it.
This gives me incentive to eat healthy and clean up the apartment and kitchen so this can actually work. I also really miss these kinds of threads- most forums have them. This is an experiment and may fail at first but I think I can make it work. I hope you all find this amusing.

I suggest The Maltese Falcon for one night or another, as well as Ich War Neunzehn(I was Nineteen). Also, try making chiliquiles. Delicious, simple, modifiable.

Recipe ripped from two different sources. I can get instructions if you all want but here's the basic ingredients. I'm so tired right now. Total cost isn't accurate cause I had a lot of the ingredients already. This served my roommate and I three servings each and there's like a shit ton left over.
An onion, four cloves garlic, two celery stalks chopped, one green pepper chopped, 1-2 cups of brown rice, 6oz tomato paste, five cups veggie broth, two zuchinnis sliced, 1 1/2 cups Okra, four diced tomatoes, tofu cut into squares, 1tsp oregano, 1/2 tsp paprika, 1/2 tsp cayenne, 1/2 tsp black pepper, 1tsp parsley (used fresh cause I forgot to get dried).
Served with vegan butter and sourdough bread.
I am drinking one of these and watching lord of the rings cause that's what the roommate had on

I recommend Sin Nombre (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sin_Nombre_%282009_film%29) if you don't mind subtitles ...
(Assuming you don't speak Spanish)

I suggest The Maltese Falcon
Great choice!
I'd suggest noir films like 'The Third Man', 'Brief Encounter', 'The Big Sleep' as well as films like 'Peirrot Le Fou', 'Wild Strawberries', 'The Conformist', 'A Bullet For The General', 'The Big Gundown'. All great films.

I suggest Survive Style 5+ (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0430651/) it's a really cool movie. One of my favorites. But, I can't be much help when it comes to a dish, because I don't dinner (in Croatia our main meal is lunch). I have only dinner when I have a date and then I cook something... maybe Balkan version of pancakes (http://www.croatiareport.com/crofood/palacinke.html) would be a good idea.

Four days sober. I've cooked each day but don't have a camera at the moment. It's odd planning meals and going to the grocery store to get stuff to put in your body that's actually going to help you function and keep you healthy instead of planning how to get fucked up without losing your job or dying.
Wish I had a camera right now. The roommate and I made a curry and brown rice dish earlier tonight and the cat just jumped down from the top of the cabinets and refrigerator to the obviously secure foothold being the handle of the pot holding all the rice. Fuck this.

Does anyone else enjoy using slow cookers/crock pots? I'm fucking obsessed with this thing. I've got chicken and rice going right now.
