I'm curious as to the attitudes of leftists on shock rock. pretty much because leftists are more likely to care about the messages of their music, but then leftists are also usually the most infatuated with the idea of shocking society and being "anti-morality", so I'm curious.

for those who aren't that aware, shock rock is music that's, well, intended to shock. lyrically it often deals with topics like hatred of authority, violence, and obscene depictions of sexuality, and it's stage performances often involve violence and obscenity. it's pretty closely related to 70's punk a lot of the time and the examples here are punk bands. another reason why I'm curious, a lot of leftists like punk rock.

examples:

XksJW4B2mIM

FAxNT82r7ko

I get a lot of (unintentional) mixed messages from leftists on shock rock and also on whether or not they care about the morality of the music they hear.

Shock rock probably appeals to leftists simply because its not often you hear something about politics or something with meaning than I love this person , I got this person in bed , I make more money than you . Ie , I love Green Day because they actually have an opinion than talking about pointless things .

Well, GG Allin was a genuine degenerate, so his shockingness is authentic. It wasn't just done to cause controversy, although some of his crazier stage antics probably were, and according to the people who knew him, he was relatively smart and was capable of speaking intelligently about a range of topics. If you ever listened to his interviews about his music, he actually takes a pretty philosophical view of what he did.

This is one of my favorite GG tracks:

If I was a scumfuck, that would be my anthem!

I believe the Dead Boys dressed up as Nazis? I'm pretty sure they did that just for the shock factor. Meh. Kind of like Sid Vicious and his swastika shirt.

I generally don't care about what the lyrics are of what I listen to, although sometimes the lyrics of RAC/Neo-Nazi stuff gets to be a bit much, honestly.

While most shockkrock is pretty stupid, sometimes very entertainingly stupid (gwar, slipknot) often just stupid stupid I think there are also lots of very intelligent artists using shock elements in their music/performance like for example laibach, ramstein, eminem or marlyn manson.
Interesting article on morality by marlyn manson after the collumbine massacre: http://www.revleft.com/vb/marilyn-manson-columbine-t147113/index.html?t=147113n
