LeftForum
26th January 2012, 00:16
Left Forum is a yearly conference in New York City, that brings about four thousand people together from around the country and the world to share ideas and empower actions for understanding and transforming the world. Among its diverse participants the conference engages civil libertarians, environmentalists, anarchists, socialists, communists, trade unionists, black and Latino freedom fighters, feminists, anti-war activists, students, progressive academics and people struggling against unemployment, foreclosure, inadequate housing and deteriorating schools. They come to this ecumenical, intergenerational space to discuss differences, commonalities, and alternatives to current predicaments. They come to engage in dialogue, organizing sessions, critical examinations of issues of movement building and to engage a wide range of critical perspectives on the world.

***Micheal Moore, Cornel West, Richard Wolff, Frances Fox-Piven, William Strickland, RoseAnne DeMoro, John Holloway, and many, many more will be joining us this year!

While workshops and panels are being proposed on occupation related issues and by people active in occupations from other parts of the country as well as the NYC action, the Left Forum board of directors would be honored to see working committees and individuals planning to get the greatest possible creative experience out of this space and event. We hope for example that you might engage the conference space to develop panels, workshops, and/or a track of panel events, meet-ups and other networking activities at your discretion.

This year the conference theme is Occupy the System: Confronting Global Capitalism.

The conference will be held at Pace University, on March 16-18th, 2012. We look forward to the creative outcome of these efforts.

Please view our profile for details on this year's conference!

I don't think mentioning Michael Moore was a good idea. Around here, we take pride in being leftier than thou. Michael Moore? What a wishy-washy librul.

It looks like there will be lots of panels by anarchists. Market Socialist David Schweickart will be there (http://www.leftforum.org/participant/speaker-david-schweickart). Also, there will be a panel by the land-value-tax guys (http://www.leftforum.org/panel/monopoly-land-bubble-and-financial-crisis-tactics-fight-1) and even a panel by anti-war rightwingers (all three of them!) (http://www.leftforum.org/panel/prospects-left-right-alliance-fight-against-empire).

Probably the best will be this panel (http://www.leftforum.org/panel/political-economy-global-crisis-where-where-next) with Anwar Shaikh.

If they absolutely had to have right-wing populists, at least have Paul Craig Roberts. Michael Moore and John Holloway are only good as observers.
