Millencolin is a Swedish punk band formed in 1992, in Örebro. They have had the same line-up since the beginning, consisting of:
Nikola Šarčević - Bass, Lead Vocals
Mathias Färm - Guitar, Backing Vocals
Erik Ohlsson - Guitar, Backing Vocals
Fredrik Larzon - Drums
Their name is derived from the skateboard trick, "Melancholy". In an interview, the band described their influences:
Bands like Bad Religion, Operation Ivy, NOFX, Circle Jerks, Pennywise, Misfits etc. influenced us alot when we started Millencolin. We heard these bands in skatevideos and stuff and it was a little hard to find their records at that time so we just thought it would be cool to play some covers and make some cool music we liked listen to. We all played in different punkbands before Millencolin and we all sang in swedish so we thought it would be fun to try to sing in another language.Their sound is not necessarily unique, but is exceptional. Many of the band's songs range from very fast skate punk with catchy guitar melodies, but also has ska and more "punk rock" influenced compositions. Their first demo "Goofy" was released in 1993, consisting of just Nikola on bass and vocals, Erik on guitar, and Mathias playing drums. Soon afterwards, Larzon joined the band to play drums, allowing Färm to perform as the second guitarist. In the summer of 1993, they recorded a second demo tape, "Melack". The band sent the tape to Burning Heart Records, a new record label formed earlier that year. They signed Millencolin to do a CD single, which culminated in the release of "Use Your Nose" in November 1993.
Success of the single prompted Burning Heart to sign the band to release a full album. In July 1994, the band released "Skauch" initially planned to be a single for their new album. However, the band decided to record four covers as well and released it as an EP instead. They put out their first major release, Tiny Tunes, in 1994. The recording and mixing of the album took two weeks. Legal trouble with Warner Brothers over the title and cover artwork of the album led the band to re-release it in 1996 under the name Same Old Tunes in 1998.
The band has since released the following studio albums:
Life On A Plate (1995)
For Monkeys (1997)
Pennybridge Pioneers (2000)
Home From Home (2002)
Kingwood (2005)
