So, my computer randomly started kind of working again to the point of me being able to play vidya games. Now, its only old games but thats not the problem.

So, I'm playing Age of Empires II now on a Win 7 computer and the nostalgia is great but theres just one problem. this game is so old that the colors are not working properly with the computer i have it installed on. Seriously, it looks like every body of water had a vomit-tanker spill.

any tips on fixing that? i tried running it in compatibility mode for Win 2000 and also setting it at 256 colors. no effect whatsoever.

also, this is a retro PC gaming thread.

Does anyone know if there are display drivers that will letterbox my screen when I'm playing an old game rather than stretch the display? Some of my old games can't handle the native resolution of my laptop.

My graphics card is an ATI.

If your computer is fast enough, you might try running a VirtualMachine with Windows98 and then run the game from the VM. I don't know if that would work, but you could try.

Another option is to run wine on a linux system or maybe even through cygwin? I don't know, just things you could try.

Nope better wait for the HD remake

Man i remember having a home game system that was black on top and orange on the bottom with 2 controllers with a turning knob on them and the only game you could play with it was pong that you had to attach to your TV.

And i thought it was the best thing ever

I've been playing Red Faction. I'm at the end, with the bomb and you need to get the code in in about 30 seconds. It's annoying as fuck.

I started playing Deus Ex a few months ago, but I gave up for some reason. Just got bored, I guess.

Got Diablo earlier this week, but haven't played it at all yet.

How's that for retro?

In anticipation of Skrim coming out, last summer I beat Daggerfall and got a good ways into Arena. Also Baldur's Gate is one the best RPGs ever made, I heard 2 is even better but I am not going to play it till I beat the first one.

If the game had/has a large enough community/following. Try looking up some forums... I'm sure you would get a much thorough answer there.

The graphics are about the same as looking into a bowl of marbles, but in 2D. I'm just waiting for the TRON inspired movie though.
