Around 300 bucks (No more than 350). I was going to buy a new xbox but now that I use a computer more often than ever I think I'm just going to go with that. I already have all the necessary requirements (Power supply, Processor etc.) and all I need is a new graphics card. But I'm looking for the best possible one in that range.
¿Que?

The two main contenders are NVidia and ATI. I don't know what's out there these days, but if you plan on ever installing linux, I've read Nvidias are good, although from my experience, it can be a headache to get 3d acceleration to work. That's if you plan on installing Linux.
Generally, though, I think you want to pay attention to how much video ram it has. The higher the better. I think processor power probably matters as well, although I have no knowledge as to what is a good graphics card processor.
In any case, 300-350 just for the video card, whatever you buy for that amount will probably work. With computer parts, it is very often, you get what you pay for.

I just fairly recently bought a PowerColor Radeon HD 6850. I'm pretty satisfied with it, I can play BF3 with no problem and it hasn't given me any trouble yet. I payed about 140 Euros for it.

Radeon 6970 seems like a good choice for you.

idk i have heard nothing but tears from ATI folks because they have such a hard time getting shit to work for their cards.
Regardless.

What I'd do, though, is save up for a whole new rig. Especially if yours is kinda old because new graphics cards are hella big and just might not fit in your case/on your motherboard.

In February the 7950 will launch at about $350. Wait for that or you'll be pissing away your money.

You learn to deal with minor glitches and not system cripping errors.

Every Nvidia card I've had has broken in some way or another, I had problems installing drivers for pretty much every Nvidia card I used to have. On the last Nvidia card I bought the drivers that came with the card didn't even work.
My current ATI card (XFX 6850) sounds like a moped, but i've had no problem with it at all.

The Nvidia card in my gaming laptop crashes at least twice a week, it's just sad tbh

I have a ATI HD5870 that i am very happy with runs everything i throw at it.
Though the drivers ugh every new one tends to fix some games while breaking others.
