Any fans?
Such a strange musician - I've met punks enamoured with him, and Kurt Cobain was a massive fan. But... my grandmother also loves him, and so does Prince Charles (lololol).
He's probably one of my favourite people ever, tbh. I think he's one of the few songwriters who have ever captured what it means to be human...

I'm a long term Leonard Cohen fan. The secon last CD I bought was Songs of Love and Hate -- had all that stuff on cassette and LP. I like the first three records the best. Brilliant brilliant songwriter.
Have you read his novels? Beautiful Losers is a masterpiece.

I have to say that you hit it right on the head. If people haven't heard of the man then I'm sure that they have heard a version of Hallelujah. My ex-wife played it for me one night and we both just about cried. The human experience is too often reduced to moments like this.

I seen him live once. My Dads favourite musician. I feel every one will like at least one of his songs

Anyone heard The Book of Longing? It's 23 of Cohen's poems set to music composed by Philip Glass. Amazing.

Not to be that guy, but the whole notion of the "human experience" is complete bullshit. It serves to depoliticize conflict and tension by purporting it to be some ahistorical, intrinsic element of being human. That's why the "art for art's sake" crowd loves talking about it, there's no room for materialist analysis.

"Oh, the Sisters of Mercy, they are not forgotten or gone...."
The first record I ever owned in college, ca. 1968, was a Leonard Cohen album, his first, according to wikipedia.org. He also wrote a novel, at least one. My literary friend in college, Peter, later a published poet, had a copy of it. As I remember, it was called Beautiful Losers, an evocative phrase. I think he must have been popular in the late sixties, because I would mention him, and acquaintances of mine would start quoting lyrics he wrote.

"Yeah you, who must leave everything that they cannot control. It begins with your family but soon it comes round for your soul..."
Yeah, for sure. Mr Cohen is one of my favourite singers. His songs are truly brilliant. Favourites are the entire first album 'The Songs of Leonard Cohen' and The Anthem from the album 'The Future'.
The whole new album is streaming here if anyone's interested. It's all legit, the link was from The Guardian.

Glad there are other fans here! Folks would probably like this documentary on him: http://www.nfb.ca/film/ladies_and_gentlemen_mr_leonard_cohen/
He was just getting going as a singer then. The end is really good, it`s very entertaining.

Local antifa band from my town made arguably the best Leonard Cohen cover. (Even though it's a French traditional song, he was the one who popularized it in his version).
