Thought this was quite amusing coming from a very Thatcherite Conservative PM...

"David Cameron will outline his ideas about "moral capitalism" in a speech on the economy later.
The prime minister is expected to demand greater transparency in pay and bonuses to try to prevent what he has called "rewards for failure".
He is also likely to suggest measures to make it easier for businesses to become co-operatives.
It comes as reports suggest taxpayer-owned bank RBS may offer a bonus of more than £1m to its chief executive.
The leaders of the three biggest Westminster parties have been talking about the need to bring about "responsible capitalism" in recent weeks"

The sight of that confounded politician(yet another!!) strutting like a cockerel on top of a capitalist dung heap, imagining he can puff his chest out and delude us he is atop the moral 'highground'. Reduces us to tears both of laughter and a weird despair. Some might be too young to remember, but Cameron , please change the bloody record. We have heard it so often, it is likely as not to bore some while others of a weaker constitution, drive us completely bonkers. Enough, I will shatter into a thousand shards.

There is no such thing as "moral capitalism", it is as moronic as an ideology that mixes Nazism and Bolshevism. Capitalism by its nature can not be responsible or moral.

Incidentally I am hardly Tory material (I am not a rich toff for one thing or even "middle class") yet Cameron still sent a brochure to my house today trying to get me to support him!?!:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

It's funny, the position which Ed Miliband, Cameron and Clegg are taking on Capitalism are the same when they describe them in the "abstract terms". "we want moral capitalism not crony capitalism" ... because there's such a thing as Capitalism without cronyism  (if not Cronyism at home then abroad).

Mind you, "Moral Capitalism" could at least be interesting if the "moral" system in question was based on Bushido. 2008 would have been a more interesting recession had the executives of the failing banks resorted to Seppuku over golden parachutes.

I've been thinking about that and i've come to the conclusion that Cameron actually isn't very bright. He's well educated (eton schoolboy of course) but fundamentally he doesn't have a clue about the lives of anyone with less than a few million quid easy to hand. As can be seen from his embarrassing attempts to make it seem like he's just like everyone else.
Conservative policies aren't coming from Cameron, i'd say Osbourne is the one we need to worry about.

Ask any person 50+ and that's what they'll tell you they want. The smart thing to ask next, is how do we procure "moral capitalism" and is anyone genuinely confident that such a ridiculous idea could ever come into practice?

Reminds me of the Ron Paulites fiercely condemning "crony capitalism".

but you know, the fact that politicians have started using terms like "moral capitalism" or "crony capitalism" probably says something about the attitude of the public toward capitalism in general in this age. No longer can all politicians openly support capitalism in all forms; they now have to invent a certain kind of capitalism with a friendlier face. perhaps this is indicative of people becoming more skeptical of the system.

MOAR CAPITALISM PLEASE.

I don't understand how these goons function. They have capitalism, they can't have more or less of it. Only different varieties.

It is the critique of capitalism from the point of view of capitalism and therefore will tie itself in knots. Of course there has always historically been a critique of capitalism and that, of course, is socialism. The political elite and the media are desperate to ignore it for obvious reasons.

BBC's Newsnight had a laughable segment the other night on the question of whether Marxism has anything to offer. First they began with an interview with octogenarian communist historian, Eric Hobsbawm, who continued his three-decade-long pessimistic outlook whilst Paxman looked on patronisingly. Poor old Eric has been down in the dumps ever since Stalinism collapsed. Then they cut to a studio discussion on Marxism with three guests, Tristram Hunt who once wrote a bio on Engels but who is himself a mainstream Labour MP; some Tory who hates socialism and engaged in mouldy old Cold War rhetoric; and a so-called business entrepreneur who seemingly had no conception or understanding of Marx at all.

It seems we have choice:laugh:, all three leaders are setting up stall. To a public who find it ever more difficult to distinguish between any of them the current orgy of morality, verily drowning in ethics has not helped. Me neither. They say the road to hell is paved with good intentions, strange, they have stopped including politicians in that phrase. IMARXMAN in his blog takes a look......often get a new slant reading his posts.

One the one hand it's just more (and moronic) propaganda to keep people on-side, on the other it's an inadvertent admission that capitalism of itself is in trouble. I can't imagine that people like Cameron like having to say stuff like this (as it encourgaes people to question capitalism in moral terms who otherwise might not have bothered) so maybe it shows how desperate they are getting.

I used to believe in "moral capitalist", or perhaps regarded naively anarcho-capitalism and communism to be on a spectrum, where "social democracy" was between "communism" and "anarcho-capitalism", implying that it is a mild form of capitalism. Indeed, "social democracy" is a mild form of capitalism, and some people regard it as "moral capitalism".

To the revolutionary left, don't underestimate the allure of "moral capitalism" or "social democracy", given its past material successes and general environment of civil liberties that provided higher living standards than most socialist states.

The reason we reject "social democracy" or "moral capitalism" is that it is merely a short-term economic solution, not an ultimate political solution, which would entail removing the influence of the bourgeoisie and other reactionaries from the institutions of political power and on culture. While "social democracy" is not the head of the snake, "social democracy" is ultimately not our ally, since it does not stop imperialism.

What Stalin said of "sincere diplomats" we can now say of this absurd concept - "moral capitalism" is like dry water or wooden iron.
