First off, I've been a Communist for several months now, and I've tried to study pretty deeply into Marx and Engels philosophies in that short time, so I'm not super new to it, but I'm no expert either. Most of the stuff I've had nothing to do with Central American Communism either. I have a few questions for the comrades here, and please be brief as possible, my eyes hurt like fuck, and I don't want to have to read a novel here:

1. Fidel Castro, so, are we supposed to like him or what? If so, tell me the highlights of his regime.

2. Che, I've studied breifly about him. I'm wondering, what the cause of everyone's fascination over him?

3. What is the deal this "leftist" stuff I've been hearing so much about? What is the opposite of a leftist? A rightist?

4. I'm no racist or anything, but what is the predominant nationality of everyone here? I'm white and from America by the way.

I have little idea of this stuff but like you and everyone else im still learning, so heres my interpretation

1. Fidel Castro, so, are we supposed to like him or what? If so, tell me the highlights of his regime.

I dont like him personally, he comes across a bit of an idiot at times, but nonetheless i love what he has done, Cuba is under heavy sanctions from the U$A but hes kept them goin for 45 years, over 90% litreacy rate the highest in Latin America, and a great health care system. If it werent for the embargos, Cuba would be a great example of how Communism can work.
But just cause your a communist doesnt mean you have to like him or what hes done.

Che, I've studied breifly about him. I'm wondering, what the cause of everyone's fascination over him?

In my eyes and quite a few others, a truly great man, maybe one of the only men ever to become a "New Socialist Man" that he dreamed about so much. After the (cuban) Revolution, his family went without food, because he refused to take more money than the average Cuban. He led by example in everything he did, never asking a man to do something that he wouldnt or hadnt done himself. Died for the cause, but inspired millions to carry it on.
Theres much more, Jon Lee Anderson Biography of Che: A Revolutionary Life is a great place to start if you want to learn more (Recomended :D )

What is the deal this "leftist" stuff I've been hearing so much about? What is the opposite of a leftist? A rightist?

Yup its a rightist, or more commonly know as a fascist. Nationalist, Conservative comes under the same thing.

I'm no racist or anything, but what is the predominant nationality of everyone here? I'm white and from America by the way.

We're from all over the world on this board, shows the reach Che still has. Unfortunatly I'm British, but please dont judge me on that.

Welcome to the Board, i hope you have fun, just keep an openmind ;)

YES.The highlight is his whole regime.

2. Che, I've studied breifly about him. I'm wondering, what the cause of everyone's fascination over him?

His good look, his courage and that picture about him that is in every communist's t-shirt.

3. What is the deal this "leftist" stuff I've been hearing so much about? What is the opposite of a leftist? A rightist?

Monkey boy said it pretty well

4. I'm no racist or anything, but what is the predominant nationality of everyone here? I'm white and from America by the way.

1) I don't really care too much for Fidel, but I believe he has done a great job helping Cuba to develop, especially after the collapse of the Soviet Union. I don't agree with his jailing of political dissidents, though he has cut back on this in previous years, and released many.

2) The fascination with him is very strong, not particularly with me, on this board. He is viewed as a true revolutionary who tried to help liberate the world, and he was.

3) Absolutely, a leftist is the opposite of a rightist. Left wing politics include communism, socialism, anarchism, liberal leftism, and countless other sects. Right wing politics include capitalism, fascism, monarchy, and once again, countless others.

4) I'm an American, and white. There are a lot of Canadians here. I know there are some people from Portugal, Russia, Great Britain, and Australia.

Thanks very much for your help, comrades. I knew most of that stuff about Che already though, I'll read more into the details of his life as I go on. But thanks a bunch for the other stuff. I really want to learn as much as I can about Communism and it's tributaries.

1. Fidel Castro, so, are we supposed to like him or what? If so, tell me the highlights of his regime:
I leave it up to you to decide whether or not you like him. Personally, I like Fidel, but it's really up to you to decide. Highlights? I would say the revolution, but I'm not too well read on Fidel...i'm more into Che at the moment.

2. Che, I've studied breifly about him. I'm wondering, what the cause of everyone's fascination over him:
Well, you guys summed it up pretty well. He is mysterious, strong, brilliant, poetic and brave, not to mention revolutionary :)
3. What is the deal this "leftist" stuff I've been hearing so much about? What is the opposite of a leftist? A rightist?

lol well, everyone else summed this one up well too..

4. I'm no racist or anything, but what is the predominant nationality of everyone here? I'm white and from America by the way.
I'm white, from Canada, my father is Slovakian and my mother is Icelandic.

1) Castro is one of the few world leaders that critize the U.$. imperialistic actions. Openly critize the Castro regime and be ready to go to jail, but for the most part Castro is a dicator that really cares for his people.

4) I am a Latin American living in the U.$. There was a poll done on members nationalities, you might try looking around the site.
