Powell signals Iran issue may divide allies
By Los Angeles Times, 11/19/2003

BRUSSELS -- On a visit yesterday to the European Union intended to repair trans-Atlantic ties, Secretary of State Colin L. Powell signaled a potential new rift between the United States and its key European allies, this time over the appropriate response to Iran's nuclear program....

My suspicion is that the U$ is trumping up false allegations because Iran has been making noise about changing their monetary standard from the U$ dollar to the Euro for the sale of oil.

Venezuela is also reportedly changing to the Euro for oil sales. Could they be next?

Very possibly... that seems to bother the U.S. quite a lot... and it is not like the U.S. was best friends with the governments in either country...

Iran has been on the hit list ever since they overthrew the Shah. The U.S. has gone so far as to arm someone like Saddam Hussein with biological and chemical weapons, just so he would use them against Iran.

Hugo Chavez has not been around as long as the mullahs in Iran, but the U.S. has already demonstrated hatred for him. The U.S., at very least, immediately supported and recognized the coup that briefly removed Chavez from power.

If oil distribution becomes a bigger problem, I expect to see "regime change" (overt or covert) take place in both countries.

Christ on a pogo stick, not again. Yeah, regime change, synonimous with junta installation.

This might seem a bit biased because I am in no way a supporter of the Islamic regime in Iran. Nontheless, I speak the truth. Albeit the American administration seems to attack Iran's nuclear program, they have been soured over the loss of ties with the oil juggernaut. If you research Iran's recent history, you will uncover the fact that the late shah commenced the nuclear programs at Bushehr, not the current theocracy, and the Americans did not accuse him of any wrong doing. The Yankees are trying to install a puppet regime within a new democratic Iran. Similar to the happenings going on in Iraqi politics. This will simply not happen because the aging Iranian youth within the West and Iran itself are growing restless and dreams of a counter-revolution might come true afterall. Not with the support of Western superpowers but the might of the Aryan people.

I have not read much about the nuclear ambitions of Iran. I would not be surprised if your claim that it was the shah who started pushing for nuclear weapons before the Islamist revolution was true. The U.S. was a lonely supporter of South Africa under the apartheid regime. That regime built nuclear weapons, and only dismantled them about the time of the end of apartheid. U.S. clients (and junior partners like the UK) have amassed nuclear weapons before.
