LEGALIZE BARED FEET - THEY ARE HOLY! OCCUPY COTTAGE GROVE LIBRARY
author: smoke e-mail: [email protected]
Bare foot entry barred in the Cottage Grove public library. why is this, and so many other places? It seems nothing more than a prejudice, or fear of a liability. The bare foot is typically cleaner than a shoe; for a lot of people this is a serious health and comfort issue. We have been stonewalled and threatened with police action. If it was legal to be barefoot everywhere probably many more would join our ranks. Our action is in January because that's when the issue came up, unfortunately, so hopefully it will be warm!
For immediate release (dated January 12, 2012). Cottage Grove, Oregon. U.S.A.

Tomorrow (January 13) at 11 AM, the Barefoot Brigade of Cottage Grove is planning to walk into the library barefoot in defiance to their policy requiring shoes. This follows several incidents previously of people being asked to leave for having no shoes with no answer to 'why'.
We are hoping to have a discussion and change this policy by demonstrating that it is of no danger to any but those who don't look where they step. No reason has been presented so far, despite several inquiries, and our dispelling myths such as 'bare feet stink' or are 'dirty' (compared to shoes?). People with no shoes tend to notice more what's on their feet, in fact. The structural problems caused by shoes are well documented. Some people can not afford them, and although they should get free shoes if needed, still they have the right not to wear them either. To people who habitually walk barefoot though, the most compelling reason to change this policy is that wearing shoes temporarily seriously affects skin and causes cracking to the otherwise impervious toughened soul. For these reasons, we are walking peacefully to make conference with those in charge.
This issue, trivial to some, represents freedom to us.

I walk barefoot throughout my home and I get lots of calluses and cracking just from that. Perversely, my feet are softer and smellier after having worn shoes around (which I seriously only do twice a week for a very short time). These hippies must have bad experience with shoes from not getting them in the right sizes or something.

Also hardened soles are gross.

Either start throwing beer bottles everywhere, or move north to snowland, both those options should decrease barefooters down to 0.

I can't stand being barefoot. I have to have socks on at least. I feel dirty for whatever reason. :P

When the revolution comes can we purposefully enforce things that will only piss off hippies? Plllleeeeasse?

I don't care about them being barefoot I just think it's a waste of time for them to approach this as some sort of legitimate struggle. Reminded me of certain users on revleft.

Next we'll be seeing Brony Rights movements. I hate literally everyone sometimes.

Sadly I don't think this is some COINTELPRO-type thing to discredit the movement.

The sickest fucking thing is that didn't Oregon cut all state funding for Libraries a few years ago? It seems like Librarians and library supporters would not be people we want to have a stinky impression of OWS protests since it could be something to organize around if they try and close Libraries again.[/serious part of my post]

And I'm a pretty tolerant person personally, I'm not shocked by body modification or grungy counter-cultural people or any of that, but I become the Mom from "Serial Mom" when it comes to bare feet and even shorts. I have to work in Berkeley and fucking frat boys walk around all year in kakkhi shorts and Birkenstocks with their funky hairy feet (not literally) in my face constantly! Feet are disgusting! I find most sexual fetishes kind of interesting or amusing - not for me personally, but I'm fascinated that people are so inventive and dedicated to some of these sexual sub-cultures. But the idea of foot-fetishists almost makes me want to start some bigoted Christan crusade. If I ever went postal... well just wear some pants and shoes if you see me coming with a detached and crazed look.
