WASHINGTON, D.C., Nov 18 (OneWorld) -- One of the world's most prominent and effective non-governmental organizations, Greenpeace, is coming under attack at both the United Nations (news - web sites) and by the U.S. Justice Department (news - web sites) in Washington, D.C.

Christ, that's a bit harsh I must say. Though I'm not a radical environmentalist, myself, I still believe their voice is one of the most important and influential around. This doesn't sound like a "warning" for any minor obscure violation, yet a full-blown draw to crush the organisation to damn near nothingness.

I'm interested in seeing how this progresses.

I'd agree...granted I'm not much of a radical environmentalist myself, I still recognize them as one of the few better organizations that have developed in this world.

It doesn't surprise me really. Greanpeace and Mother Jones have been busting the administration's balls from Massachusets to Wyoming to Alaska. It's obviously a retaliatory move on their part. Man, I wish Fashcroft would just go take a flying leap...

The action comes as U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft (news - web sites) is pressing a criminal case against Greenpeace for allegedly violating an obscure 1872 law against individuals who lured sailors to their establishments with offers of liquor or prostitutes

Allright, I'm a little curious.

Those bastards. I think that sums it up nicely. Greenpeace do a job that has to be done in todays society, and those bastards are trying to stop them. Until we get a more equatable society which actually cares about the environment we should support orgs like Greenpeace all the way.

Check out www.ngowatch.org;

These idiots are proclaiming environmental/humanitarian groups such as Greenpeace and Oxfam as, and I quote 'not just accredited observers at international organizations, they are full-fledged decision-makers.'

Priceless.
