Both of them seem to mean well but they probably cause more damage than good.

Atheism Central just spouts out historical inaccuracies to defend the Soviet Union and other authoritarian "communist" countries. His glorifications of Stalin are just sickening. Also he seems to think that North Korea is an socialist paradise.

I haven't seen much of MRN, but of what I saw he is much the same.

The worst part about it is that conservatives use people like them to ridicule and illegitimize socialism. People just don't swallow the claims of Stalin apologists and we need to drop those claims if leftism is to gain popular support.

Brendan Cooney is the best youtuber ever hands down. He talks about marxist theory which is really useful especially for beginners. His logic is also infallible :lol:
Another good youtuber is UncleBanana, in fact he also has an account on this site.

I don't know if left-libertatianism falls into the category of communism in your view, but the youtuber TheLeftLibertarian is also very good.

I'm in two minds about MRN... I think some things he has posted are good and have made good points but at the same time I find him dressing up in, for instance, a Soviet uniform (albeit with the wrong shirt and tie) to be a little embarrassing as it makes MLs look like "Military Fetishists".

Sometimes his videos are bad, but that is to be expected on YOUTUBE.

He seems to be mentioned in every other thread as if he is the Great Satan and ultimate moron of our times however which is somewhat annoying... it can't be because of that fight he had with RevLeft, surely? :huh:

The whole "feud" (lol) was actually about a few people saying he stole his articles from other leftist websites (which he did) but even before that somebody posted a thread on him and people made fun of his smug tone, his wannabe Castro-beard and his little cosplay uniform.

I've watched maybe 10 or 15 at most. I'm oddly confused by him sometimes too. He has a video where he keeps going on and on about how he was disappointed by Rachel Maddow and her initial support for Obama's war on Libya. Like, this is a 10 minute video of him going on, being so ashamed of her, as if he liked her...

why? she's always been a liberal. that video really threw me off. why would he like her in the first place?

besides that, some of his videos are absolutely pointless, where he just has internet fights and doesn't do anything related to Marxism, Maoism, etc. just petty internet whining. And other ones, like the Dragonball Z one among others, just make me cringe.

It is the strangest coincidence I have seen on the left that those who uphold Mao,Stalin and the rest (M-L) seem to be the ones who are either closet homophobes or use homophobic language.For instance,on Facebook I was playfully remarking on a Stalinist's friend's wall about a neutral post of his regarding school and for some inexplicable reason he blasts back saying,"...why don't you go give Trotsky a back rub and suck off his balls?" As we are being secterian. I could say [Insert Tendency Here] are mostly [Insert Insult Here]*... but is that neccesarily true? Or is it just that some I meet online are? Most "Stalinists" I meet in real life (and online personally) are actually very anti-Homophobic (or even homosexual+) they just don't have "something to prove" and thus don't go to ridiculous extremes to prove they are not Homophobes. I have noticed when push comes to shove those who are the "most anti-Racist" or the "most un-Homophobic" or the "most non-Sexist" usually hold some of the views they themselves try to distance themselves from.

I am anti-many-things but I don't feel the need to bring them into things all the time to prove how dedicated I am.

*EDIT:Will not mention any tendency even if it is hypothetical, not in the mood for a tendency war today... maybe some other time.

+ Look at the demographics of Marxist-Leninists on RevLeft and you will see many of us are Homosexual or Bisexual. Also on our group page we addressed the issue and all of us disagree with the USSR's policy of not having Homosxuality legalised in the Stalin era (while acknowledging reasons as to why it may have happed). So it is highly unfair to imply we mostly are Homophobes due to a mere handful of M-Ls (three, I think you mentioned).

If some bigot is spouting words like "faggot" and such, and trying to associate himself with the movement you're in then why try to defend such action? The excuse that "yeah well, some people are bigots but they can still be leftists" is frankly a cop out. If they're openly being a bigot then they should get their ass handed to them and kicked out of the movement and made clear that they do not represent the views of the majority of the movement.

Well actually...yeah, it isn't as bad. You can change the way you look, and besides that, people aren't discriminated in any real way based on how they look. MRN will only have to worry about people mocking and ribbing at the most, women are raped every day and a homosexual can be killed for sharing their sexuality with the wrong person. I see no real comparison between someone getting made fun of on the internet based on how they choose to present themselves to others and real actual discrimination you see towards women and homosexuals.

I just can't take the guy seriously when he puts so much effort in his appearance, just as I can't take anyone seriously if they look like they spent more than ten minutes deciding how to wear their hair in the morning. Brendan Mcooney is so appealing because he doesn't look like he's putting any effort into some image, all you get from his videos is marxist knowledge devoid of egotistic motives.

I wouldn't say youtube communists don't matter. If anything what they are doing is very important, or at least potentially very important. I'm not a communist because of my education (as communism is misrepresented in our schools, if represented at all), and I don't see people selling socialist newspapers readily available for all to see in my area..and even if they were people aren't going to read them. Perhaps it's a generation thing, but I would not be a leftist if it wasn't for reading forums like this and watching youtube videos on the internet.

I am not one of those "the internet will bring revolution!" types, but lets not downplay the importance of using media to our advantage. I see activism "in real life" and spreading socialist ideas and having discussion on the internet as equally important.

Don't idealize leftism too much. Some are going to be homophobic but agree with the actual core features of communism as laid out by Marx, ergo they are leftists but also assholes or misguided. Some cultures are sadly more homophobic than others, and members of those cultures, though Marxist, will sadly still hold such views. Luckily progression does mean that this will not always be the case, but we have not fully got passed it yet. We will eventually.

Hard to kick someone out of a movement though! You can kick them out of parties and associations, but not movements. And you have to remember that in some cultures homophobia is not as frowned upon as it is in the Europe. Bullshit. People are discriminated due to their looks everyday. And why should someone be force to change the way they look?

Also you cannot change every feature or aspect of how you look. You also can change sex too, or are transsexual only pretending to be another sex to the one they were born as? No, that is just transphobia. They did change their sex and should be treated as a member of the sex they have joined.

All prejudices are equally as bad as the other. Someone being teased and tormented, wishing he was dead, for his sexuality gets it as bad as someone who is picked on for the way he looks, such as his height. Saying that someone can, and should, change how they look to avoid discrimination is nonsense and I can only presume that you have not formulated your idea on the matter more thoroughly.

Homophobia is more common and thus more of a problem in society, but discrimination based on look is equally wrong when we get to the core of the matter.

I see no real comparison between someone getting made fun of on the internet based on how they choose to present themselves to others and real actual discrimination you see towards women and homosexuals.

To be fair, a lot of people seemed to excessively ripping on him for his admittedly fucking terrible aesthetics, but equally he seems like a petty-bourgeois nationalist so a lot of the criticisms on his ideas are quite valid.
