I know there's a BA thread basically about this, but I'm gonna post here just because, I don't know, this is my community, I'd like to get this off my chest a little bit.

I've been gone for a spell, I'd say a month or two. My father started drinking very heavily after 10 years and threw everything into chaos with my family. I had to fork over the vast majority of my savings to keep a roof over my little brother and sister's head while my father has wallowed in his self destructive, selfish bullshit. My step mom booked it to NC and I was left broke, squatting in my old empty house in the winter. I finally made it to florida, and here I am back at my fucking mom's house. Feels like I'm at square one again. Plus my dad tries to scare me into thinking he's about to off himself daily.

Life sucks, but there's some upsides to being down here again I suppose. Can't think of them now, but they must exist.

Anyway, that's why I've been MIA. I got a new laptop though, for christmas :D

Blackscare.....
bale out......old chap. Soak up the sunshine...little bro and sis will survive and dad will drown in self pity. In short get on with your life....it worked for me anyhow. Will you snap if I wish you a happy and prosperous New Year? Alcoholics only have a few cards to play. Self pity and blaming others. A few years ago it might be 'the war', or stress job....now it might be no job. Either way get out there and please help yourself, maybe invite the kids over during their vacation. I was reunited with my bro after 18yrs....he told me frankly it was the best move I could have done. We sometimes have natters into the night, no tears, except laughing.....did we survive all that? Really? How? Even the old man got his 3 score and 10. Just make sure you finish education, I never, if you missed out and get on with career and enjoy life. I do. I also enjoy a drink...but it's never been my master. Looking in the rear view mirror it'll all look smaller and smaller. It'll mean you are not in the wreckage. Besides Florida and a new laptop...I am envious.....

Upside: You came here in the "winter." Prepare to suffer when it gets hot. What part of the swamp are you in?

I wish you all the best, man. And don't worry about your father, he's simply trying to mask his woes by making you feel sorry for him. He's not going to off himself, trust me.
