View Full Version : How often do ya'll drink (do I have a problem content)

I drink probably every other day, like, til I'm drunk. I get black out drunk probably once a week or once every other week.

Sometimes I tell myself "no drinking this week", I usually still drink the regular amount. It hasn't fucked with my regular life yet though...

Not at all anymore, ever since my uncle has had these alcoholism problems everyone in my family has stopped drinking. Still smoke like a chimney, even though both my great grandmothers died of lung cancer and my grandfather has congenital heart failure.

Until recently I'd get moderately drunk every night. Now I get drunk once or twice a week. Not that this is a good thing. If you feel you can't stop drinking every day it's probably a problem especially if your health is being affected. The thing that helped me was moving into an apartment with someone who had problems with drugs and alcohol and who has zero tolerance for either (they're also an ex smoker and just gave me shit about ten minutes ago cause I went outside and smoked a cig). Obviously moving in or associating with people who have been sober for a while (if you're still drinking) can be bad for them but for some reason it has worked out. This is my night off, I have off tomorrow from work and I'm not drinking any alcohol. I've had a lot of caffeine and may get a coffee later to stay up and play bf3 with a friend over in philly but I'm not drinking. Normally I'd probably be pretty drunk by now.

I think my biggest problem is that if I don't drink, there is simply nothing to do. Like, there is nothing to do in my small town except drink, everybody my age drinks that I spend time with.

I have some straight edge friends from the hardcore scene, but they all live a couple towns away/about an hour, so all I can really do is go drink.

I think I need a hobby?

Write maybe? Or start a band if you're really passionate about music.

Write maybe?

Yeah, the only thing about that is that I'm a bad writer. (poor education) I'm an awesome speaker, but a terrible writer, I'm sure if I took some classes or something I could write good shit, but every time I try to write it comes out really disorganized and rambling.

One of the only reasons I drink, smoke cigarettes and do drugs is out of boredom. I hate it. When I get involved in stuff I may still smoke cigarettes but I stop the other two because I don't have time for them, I'm too excited to be doing other things. I'm goal oriented and sometimes I find it hard to even find a goal. Once I do though I'm in it for the duration.

Yes, you have a drinking problem. The giveaway is when you intuitively sense something is wrong (to the point where you are consciously thinking about ways to scale back, or to the point where you have to ask on an internet forum), try to stop it, but then can't. It's called a chemical dependency, and I would strongly advise you seek professional help to deal with it. Left untreated, your problem will get worse. Don't wait until your liver is pickled and you begin hemorrhaging.

BTW, I think finding a hobby is a great idea. Another way to spend your time might be contemplating ways to move out of your dull-ass town and into a place where there are more rewarding activities than slowly destroying your body and mind.

you dont really need "good education" to be able to write, just critical reading. i am fairly good at writing fiction/poetry but i am a fucking physicist, which means i had zero "formal" training for writing fiction. just practice and read.

I actually only drink about every other week, but that's mostly due to my friends not being huge drinkers. When I do, though, I tend to go a little bit overboard - I rarely remember much from a night out.

I smoke weed every day, though. Starting to think I'm gonna have to cut back on that.

o well this is ok I guess

somewhere between once every two weeks and daily
depends on my budget, really.

I had a 20 year drinking career and I never thought that it affected me as a person, husband, son, activist or employee. When I finally lost everything and got some period of sobriety I could clearly see that all the excuses I made for losing it all was just that, an excuse. My drinking and using was the culprit. It doesn't happen all at once and you tend to surround yourself with like minded people so it seems natural to get blitz every other night. Those good times will start to get further apart and those "friends" aren't there anymore. Your loved ones will walk away and no one will want to employ you anymore. Didn't want to sugar coat it.:cursing:

when at Uni: some weeks I get drunk every night, other weeks only 1 or 2 nights a week

I tend to drink only on Saturday nights (and even then usually only a pint or two of cider if I go to a pub quiz with my brother), and usually on Wednesday (a pint of cider if I go to a pub quiz with my brother and sister) and Friday nights (either cider or vodka), when I'll drink at home.

Although the legal drinking age here is 18, I didn't really drink alcohol regularly until I was about 22.

I'm trying to cut down on my drinking. I think I do it because I'm lonely/bored/etc. I usually have a glass of wine or two in the evening.

danyboy27
6th January 2012, 14:15
approx 4 glass beers a week, 1 every 2 days.

i am not a big drinker, but drinking moderately allow me to become relaxed with fewer alchool content, i take a shooter of scotch sometimes, that about it. The only time i drink more than a beer a day is for special events like party.

6th January 2012, 20:43
it varies, i've been drinking less lately, but i probably have at least one drink four to five nights at week, maybe get drunk two or three times. it depends. most of my friends here are alcoholics to one degree or another (no judgement, i probably am too) so i've been spending less time with them to cut back on my own drinking. its a money issue too, going to the bar all the time is expensive. i usually have a bottle of gin or a 12er in the fridge tho.

idk i'm getting kind of sick of drinking culture

Normally drink enough to get really drunk once a week, sometimes twice, but probably have a beer or two most nights just watching some sport on telly or something like that. I'm at Uni but I think I actually drink more at home because it's always good to go out with friends you haven't seen for weeks and because I don't have as much work to do

I usually have a couple drinks most nights if I dont have somewhere I have to be, but I have no problem going without it. I usually only get drunk on the weekends, tho. It seems to me that its only really a problem if it starts impacting your life negatively or interfering with other shit.

I get drunk every day, but I never drink until I pass out. My drinking doesn't interfere with other aspects of my life - I prefer to spend time with friends than drink alone and I'm always OK for work. I'd still like to cut down though, before it does become a problem.

I used to smoke weed everyday. Like all day every day. The reason I started drinking so much was as a replacement for this when I started fearing for my mental health. Then I realised that alcohol is far more harmful, but getting stoned just doesn't do it for me any more. Why do some people seem to have addictive personalities?

I do drink out of boredom a lot of the time. I've been working nights long enough now that I don't even try to get into a daytime routine on my days off; I just stay up all night. (Got up at 8pm today.) What else is there to do on you own in the middle of the night?

The problem is I don't currently have a strong enough reason to cut down on my drinking. If I found myself a partner or got more politically involved it might help, but I think the main reason why I haven't already made more of an effort to do these things is because I'm afraid of flaking on any commitment that I might make.

I drink every night, but I don't get drunk. My tolerance has gone up quite a bit so I can drink a bottle of wine to the face and still operate a vehicle with relative ease and safety.

When I was in school I used to get shitfaced every weekend, like blackout drunk, like 'dude you'll never believe what you did last night' drunk. But that shit got tiring and silly after a while. Now I like a good strong drink, or two, or a half bottle of wine with dinner, or something like that.

Saves money this way too.

I doesn't work, trust me. Being stoned, however, works if you're alone and you do it on a regular basis. A lot of my mates actually prefer being stoned while doing math and they're all math majors so yeah.

I've been quite consistent for over a decade now; I split a bottle of wine between Friday and Saturday evenings if I'm staying in. If I have more than half the bottle on the Friday (which happens once in a while) I allow myself an Ouzo before I finish the bottle the next night. I seem to have a low alcohol tolerance (by which I mean I get drunk very quickly on half a bottle and seem to sober up after about an hour). I have probably had a drink on week nights too, but I can't remember when I last did that (it's so rare).

Only when I've been on holiday abroad have I drank solidly every night (for a fortnight) and which has never been more than once a year. I miss Greece :crying:
