Edit: Can someone point to a Marxist rebuttal of Marginal Utility and "useless work" (digging a hole for 5 hours and filling it back up)

This should be in either Learning or Economics.

This should be in either Learning or Economics.

Or, judging from the User's new title, it should be in Opposing Ideologies.

Oh, and to answer your question:

Comrade, throughout everything Marx wrote, in his intelligence, in his awe aspiring knowledge of economics, don't you think he would have taken such an argument into consideration?

And what is the marginal utility of a hole?

Is there diminishing returns to scales?

(Hint: no, because for all practical purposes, the viable land one could use to dig holes on is "infinite"; and the value of a hole does not decrease as more is produced...)

What's the demand market for "digging a hole, then filling it up again" services?

(Hint: if there is no marginal utility, there cannot be a demand curve according to Neoclassical economists, and hence no curve...)

No marginalist ever stops to realize that their own examples could be used against them...

Well, the fact is, marginal utility tries to bridge use-value with exchange value, as if they were the same. I'm kind of busy right now, but the answer to this lies in Capital, Vol. 1, Part I: Commodities and Money. So you might want to read that if you want to be educated on the subject rather than just have talking points for a debate...
