View Full Version : Getting Guaranteed Break Times for Arkansas Workers

Recently I was told that during an eight hour shift I wasn't going to be given a break at my job. So I called the Arkansas Department of Labor to check my rights and they said that in the state of Arkansas there are rights around taking a break, but no requirements to give breaks.

After learning that there are many states with non-controversial laws regarding break times, I'm thinking that it would not be impossible to get a law passed in either the Arkansas legislature or get a ballot proposal passed to ensure workers have guaranteed breaks.

I was wondering if any comrades have done similar work and have any advice on how to move forward. I was considering calling the AFL-CIO and on of the Democrat state legislators to work on this, or see if something is already being done.

So, thoughts?

I suggest trying to find a way to file an anonymous complaint. If your boss gets a letter from the Dept. of Labor (or an inspection) it might scare him/her straight. Then again if they know you're the "8 hours guy" you might be punished?

Shouldn't you at least get a lunch break!?

Seriously, no lunch? Wow. Solidarity if you take action.

I suggest taping via audio/video a discussion with a manager along these lines. If you get canned send it to Anon/Wikileaks/labor groups/Occupy.
