View Full Version : Not Hipster Communists

Hey guys,

I wear skinny jeans, flannels, not v-necks though preferring the regular kind of white tee. Most days I wear Chucks though when it's cold I prefer Clarks. I legitimately enjoy Beirut and Bon Iver much to my friends' dismay and have over 12 hours of chillwave on my iPhone though I can't say I like Witch House. I also wear a black Champion hoodie.

However, I am not a hipster. Nor am I a 'hipster communist' whatever that is. I am a hardline anti-revisionist Marxist-Leninist. I feel like there should be a tendency for people like me. I don't really care about ideology or anything, but if you're really into the communism brand, I feel like "Stalinism" as some people call it is the most authentic. I mean yeah there's Maoism but that's just for l0serz who are into eastern mythology and wearing military uniforms and Trotskyism for bros who are into writing newspapers and arguing over who's more unchill or whatever. I guess anarchists are kind of authentic, but the whole scene is just not that relevant unless you're a 1992-style crustpunk because otherwise it's just sports bros rioting because their team lost or whatever. I guess there's also Brezhnevites and such, but they're really missing the 1960s 'golden age of the USSR' vibes and instead focusing on writing really shitty books and demanding you buy them (I'm looking at you, PSL.)

So yeah, in conclusion, I think that Stalinwave communism is the best brand to support if you're not a hipster. Kind of feel like if I was a Trotskyite or something I'd just be one of those bros listening to Rage against the Machine and arguing on the internet about how Trotsky is the chillest bro ever. Also would probably have 5-6 foot tall stacks of old newspapers all over my house.

hi carles

I am not an overweight pop culture blogger. You're talking about Carlos Perez of Perez Hilton, right?

why did you write this. no one's life has more value now that you have written this.

I just feel like there should be more recognition of non-hipster communists on this forum. Seeing all those 'effing hipster communists' with their sweater vests and cigarettes made me feel like most people really aren't exploring the alternatives to this lifestyle brand.

No idea. This looks like a pop culture blog though so I was half-correct.

I've never actually met anyone who calls himself a Marxist but has no political positions that converge with another ideology. What are 'Marxists' like?

My jeans smell like spilled PBR and Lucky Strikes ash because of New Year's so I'm wearing khaki shorts right now. Therefore, if those are your three qualifiers, then you are at least 1/3 wrong.

So you've been indoors since 1992?

So you've been indoors since 1992?

I've been to those sXe venues where the veganarchists gave me a lot of zines about the invisible revolution or whatever, but it really didn't seem like a relevant lifestyle choice.

It sounds like the OP's version of Marxism-Leninism is based on lifestyle affiliation underneath it all.

I am a hardline anti-revisionist Marxist-Leninist. I feel like there should be a tendency for people like me.
There is....

I don't really care about ideology or anything,
It sounds like you do....

Brand? You should read No Logo by Naomi Klein.I'm sure not a Maoist but there is more to this tradition than certain people who make Youtube vids.
What is your activist approach? Not that there's anything wrong with being chill...

I do feel the "chill" of Novosibirsk though, comrade.....

BTW, What's Borgadism? I haven't heard of this?

I live in the capital city of hipsters, and skinny jeans do not make one a hipster. I can't even adequately explain to you what a hipster is, you have to experience it.

Well we got Che Guevera as an example. He considered himself a marxist.

Well it's more that I am not satisfied with the lifestyles that all these brands offer me.

That's good because this thread is about how I'm not a hipster and believe that there should be a tendency for people like that.

It is, but odds are, if you indulge in those two, and you're under 30 years old, you're at least a little bit of a hipster.
