I was watching TV the other day and an advert came on (Water Aid I think) explaining that as little as £2 a month is enough to ensure that people (children!) in Africa are provided with clean drinking water. Anyway later that night I saw a news report claiming that the Olympic Stadium in London (built specifically for the 2012 Olympics) has cost over £486 million to build. What the fuck?! Do the British government really think a stadium that's going to be used for what, 3 weeks or so? Is more important than human beings having one of the most basic rights of all; access to clean water? If £2 a month is enough to save a life, imagine how many lives you could save with £486 million! I mean I feel guilty when I spend £5 pounds on a fucking t-shirt whilst these capitalist assholes are spending ridiculous amounts of money on needless nationalistic crap

That's capitalism for you.

Exactly. The problems we face are very easy to fix.

The Olympics have always been, and always will be a nationalistic tool.

Irrational emotionalist arguments derail the socialist movement. The problem with these kinds of arguments is that a reformist could simply say that the government should increase foreign aid or whatever. Besides it does't really help to just give everyone food for free, as that would completely destroy the country's agricultural industry and impoverish the nations farmers, especially the ones who are already extremely poor. What could really help against famine would be to send modern agricultural machines to the farmers and teach them modern agricultural methods instead of just giving £2 that would mean nothing in the long run. Also you dont need to feel guilty for buying clothes or anything like that just because some people suffer does't mean you have to suffer.

I don't see a problem with the Olympics, if there are no problems like this

In follow your reasoning....but

what happens if the machines need innovation or need to be replaced?

The problem here is the competative nature of capitalism and its inherrent imperialist aims. The problems can not be solved within that context.
