The Post-Cold War political topography of the Middle East

• Islamists are not champions of Palestinian nationalism or of any Arab nationalist cause. Their cause--the expulsion of Jews and Christians from the Middle East-- is fundamentally incompatible with Palestinian nationalism. It weakens and divides the Palestinian nation by sowing enmity between Christian and Muslim Palestinians and, more generally, between Christian and Muslim Arabs and Arab nationalists. The Islamist cause is to free Palestine (‘and other Muslim lands’) by expelling foreign minorities and non-Muslims from the Middle East. This is not the Palestinian national cause, and it is one with which no Christian, and few Muslim, Palestinians sympathise.

I don't view the Israel Palestine/Arab conflict as an Jewish vs Muslim conflict it is not a religious conflict it is an ethnic conflict.None of the above, it's a land issue. Israel has all the good land. Someone could probably go into better detail.

Its even an ethnic conflict, its a conflict over land and national sovereignty.

Its obvious Israel wants to make sure that no sovereign palestinian state exists ... EVER, and they want their national sovereignty to include all the land of palestine, which they are doing by choking gaza and settling the west bank.

Originally it was a land issue but opportunists have utilized religious and ethnic platforms to achieve their goals and this is happening on both sides of the conflict. Not to mention the imperialists who could care less about whether or not a bronze-age book written by goat-herders settles the problem, they just want a piece of the pie and are exploiting not only the Palestinians but ultimately the Israeli's as well.
