Latino/Chicano/South Asian victims of hate crimes are well-known hot issues. We all feel bad about the enslavement of blacks here in the US. But the yellow man (and the red man, too, actually) are constant fodder for humor and jokes. North Korea is a great target too, because you can disguise your comments by claiming to be referring to malnutrition or the "brainwashing" (if you want to roll your eyes at the behavior of the Chinese or the Koreans, just refer to this) or whatever else that goes on in the mysterious East.

I think you misunderstood - jokes about height when talking about North Korea specifically are apt because the widespread starvation causes a low median height.

How many people would say how ludicrous a "giant" in Sub-Saharan Africa is? There are famine-ravaged areas there too, but a crack about East Asians is much more universally understood.
