Does anyone know of any videos or anything that display how a transition from capitalism to communism and the final result would (ideally) work? I just thought something like this might be good to show people (mainly those who are stuck with completely false ideas of the left) as opposed to having it on paper.

Its not a video, but Gilles Dauve's Eclipse and Re-emergence of the Communist Movement is really an excellent piece. Its not too hard to read and brings up communist ideas (communization) that arent generally talked about on the Left.

there are people who talk about how communism would function, but anyone who does this beyond fun and imaginative speculation is full of shit. social relations in communism will be vastly different from todays and therefore impossible to know.

I was looking more for a sort of video or something, but this is also quite helpful. Thank you, sir.

As kickass as the idea of a comic book version of the Communist Manifesto sounds, it appears to have been made by opponents of socialism/communism.

Book Description: "A spectre is haunting Europe - the spectre of communism. All the powers of old Europe have entered into a holy alliance to exorcise this spectre: Pope and Tsar, Metternich and Guizot, French Radicals and German police-spies..." A spectre toils silently in sun-baked fields. It shuffles through dusty village squares. It slaves amidst the grime and drudgery of factory floors. It picks through the garbage of shanty-town alleys. It floats over office-tower cubicles row upon row. Wherever capitalism has had its parade our spectre follows quietly. It settles amongst the alienated, the impoverished, the exploited. It bears witness to millions of silent screams. More and more, we glimpse that ghost. But why a graphic edition? Put simply, in order to reanimate the text. To make it available to a new audience. To help us better understand our innate yearning for the promise of a better tomorrow and to re-acquaint us with a political pamphlet that forged the ideological foundations for one of the most idealistic yet repressive eras of human history." (Emphasis mine)

Do you think it will present Marx's views accurately? Or it will assume that 'dictatorship of the proletariat' means an oppressive totalitarian regime?

Judging by the front cover it does actually look like a McCarthy styled "THE COMMIES ARE COMING!!!" perspective. I'll see if I can get a look at it somewhere without having to buy it, just in case it is red scare material.

I just remembered this short animated video lecture by Dr. Richard Wolff called How Class Works.

I was feeling optimistic when I first saw the cover so I thought they were trying to show capitalism as Marx and Engels saw it (brutal, oppressive, chaotic, etc.) But the description on Amazon made me think it could easily be some kind of 'communism=totalitarianism' type propaganda. Guess I'd actually have to buy it to see.

Judging by the fact that's it's published by "Red Quill," I'm gonna say probably not.

I thought Amazon usually has a look-inside sneak peek available.

Well, there have been a few artists who have illustrated some of the ideas in Marx's works, but not really to the full extent of creating a whole visual communist world, and I think that's a good thing because part of being a communist is understanding that the world can change rapidly in very many different ways and who knows what the fuck communism will really look like in 300 years or whenever. H.G. Wells created a few sort of socialist utopias in some of his writings and some of those have been animated or illustrated.

This guy uses old stock footage public domain cartoons and propaganda videos to explain Marxian economics: http://www.youtube.com/user/brendanmcooney

I've also read this, which animates some of Marx's ideas: http://www.amazon.com/Marx-Beginners-Rius/dp/0375714618/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1326994341&sr=8-1

Also, a Japanese manga company has animated Capital volumes 1 and 2 and the Communist Manifesto: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manga_de_Dokuha

http://www.eastpress.co.jp/manga/shosai.php?serial=885

They've been selling quite well, from what I hear.

I guess our numbers are large enough to warrant a cottage cultural industry, as with 'V For Vendetta' and 'Fight Club', even if the actual political *content* is less than clinically precise....
