View Full Version : One of the most idiotic quotes I've ever heard

So I was on a video on YouTube of the Soviet anthem (hey, we all know it's catchy as fuck), and obviously there had to be some stupid capitalists with no knowledge of what communism is commenting on the video. I won't post the whole conversation, but the last comment he gave me was this:

Also you just proved this quote :D
Capitalism and communism stand at opposite poles. Their essential difference is this: The communist, seeing the rich man and his fine home, says: 'No man should have so much.' The capitalist, seeing the same thing, says: 'All men should have so much.'

Are people honestly this stupid that they believe everyone can be "rich"? I told this person that he must be 5 years old if he has such little understanding of how money works, but I now look back and realise I was arguing with an indoctrinated capitalist.

Seriously, you should not read the youtube comments section.
Especialy on videos related to communism-cccp-ww2-history.

Don't ever look at the comments, on some RT videos i really feel like jumping thru my screen and beating the stupidity out of people.

I agree that maybe I am wasting my energy on YouTube, but any of these idiots could just as easily join RevLeft and put up a stupid argument. Actually, I can REALLY see this guy is not worth my time now, as he responded with another stupid quote:

"The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings; the inherent virtue of socialism is the equal sharing of miseries."

Then he gave the old "life is better for most people than it was 100 years ago which proves that capitalism works" thing... you guys are right, why do I even bother? :bored:

And he thinks quotes have some value (worth?) in a debate?

The point of a communist is not to criticize wealth. It's about criticizing how that wealth is made, and the system in which It is processed.

And capitalism is not an ideology. A capitalist is a class position, not a fucking mindset.

What do we call the mindset of someone who supports capitalism then?

The first quote is by Phelps Adams, whoever he is.

I've wondered that myself. And the quote thing seems really annoying. It reminds me of when I start a discussion and they'll quote animal farm (or just bring it up) and then just act like they won. Also, that guy clearly has no idea how communists think. I would take a guess and say he thinks we are just jealous of other people's wealth.

No,no a communist would say "how many people did he exsploit to get that?" a capitalist says "why the Flying fuck don't I have that?!?!"

It's ironic to think a capitalist can say ALL people can have anything. The most basic concept of capitalism is "I have what he doesn't, hooray for me!"

What do you expect from people whose understanding of political theory and history is a bad cartoon?

Couldn't have put it better myself!

That's what I was going to argue back, but thought it would be best to leave his simple mind to shrivel up and die in its own uselessness. A Ferrari is nothing if everyone has one...

Indeed, I am trying to figure out what is so shocking about this. The quote is pretty tame by Youtube standards where you have fascists, trolls, and everything else you can imagine trolling around for reactions. Youtube comments are mostly entertainment for me as it is just so much trolling with people getting suckered into debating with someone who at the end of the day doesn't give a shit.

I recently heard the whole situation about Ron Paul saying something racist like 20 years ago and everyone getting a boner over it recently. Maybe they just wanna follow in his footsteps?

I'm pretty sure that RP and the Paulbots always were and always will be racists, so I don't think it requires much "following" to be so. They're made-to-fit.

And not to mention the type of free market tards that post page after page after page after page of stomach-turning tripe and just don't shut up.

How is ron paul a rascist?

think this is an excellent article on the newsletters: http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2011/12/grappling-with-ron-pauls-racist-newsletters/250206/

Did I just see someone defend Paul on here? How marvellous. It goes beyond the newsletters (also the absurd things said in public and private, etc), and it being Paul, who is both old and a religious and political nutjob, is there really an issue to argue about? Why are you defending such scum?

“Capitalism and communism stand at opposite poles. Their essential difference is this: The communist, seeing the rich man and his fine home, says: 'No man should have so much.' The capitalist, seeing the same thing, says: 'All men should have so much.'”

That definitely gets the number one spot in the list of stupidest things I have ever heard. A greater ignorance then that has definitely never been uttered. In fact, it logically possible to reach a stupidity level lower then this commentator.

There can't be an "all men should have so much" condition in capitalism because it is economically inefficient and anti-egalitarian.

Those "Ron Paul supporters" are actually just an army of spambots. Ron Paul doesn't have any real human supporters ;)

Capitalists fail to realize that wealth is relative. If everybody somehow miraculously would become rich, well then NOBODY would be rich

I would correct that quote to: "The communist, seeing a homeless man begging for money, says 'No man should have so little'. The capitalist, seeing the same, exclaims 'This lazy man should not be allowed to live'"

As for Youtube comments sections, they are a veritable septic tank, where trolls have a field day, where you often see comments like "I'll fucking kill you and rape your mother you piece of shit" between people who disagree with each other. I think it's the anonymity factor. I wouldn't even bother commenting on any videos, it would probably unleash a torrent of crap...

I guess because i'm concerned with people being accurate. I guess also because i think its frustrating when the left just tries to smear people as rascist or some shit, as that is no way to ever get what we want.

What kind of rascist things has paul said in his public life or prviately? I really object to the idea that being old or a "religious nutjob" means that we should decide he is rascist on the basis of rubbish evidence, and i'm defending him because I think its important to find out whats true and what isn't?

I don't get why you feel this isn't an issue to argue about, are we allowed to make up any completely wrong accusations towards people and not have them questioned just because their politics are right wing? :S

A conservative. (Liberalist) or reactionary
I find that an odd term to use, considering the first capitalists we called "radical leftists" and "liberal."

I have a big problem with the terms "liberal" and "conservative" to define political and economic philosophies. Their meaning is not the same throughout history.

It sounds like some sort of weird propaganda shit. I mean shit. It takes about half the average IQ to see that capitalism is not founded on the idea that all people should become wealthy, otherwise who the fuck would be willing to make all of the products the rich guys are getting wealthy off of?

Revolution starts with U

If you didn't have some kind of racism in your heart, you wouldn't accept campaign contributions from David Duke, period. Ron Paul is a racist. He can claim incompetency all he wants, but when the newsletters first came out, he claimed it was "out of context." He didn't claim ghost writer until much later.

Here's my take on that quote

'An opponent of slavery looks at all a slaves owner's possession (including their slaves) and says "nobody should have that much." A supporter of slavery looks at the slave owner's possessions and says "everybody should have that..." but wait a second, the slaves can't.'

He used the word, "should". 'All men should have so much.'

He did not say "can".

In that case socialists can say 'we should have the means to produce so much wealth that when those means to produce wealth are under the democratic control of the people, it results in everybody being as wealthy as the capitalists are now.' Again the emphasis is on "should".
