View Full Version : Ridiculous military recruiter.
A Revolutionary Tool

So my mom was on the phone with a old high-school buddy she hasn't talked to and for some reason(She was drunk) she handed me the phone to talk to him. He basically proceeded to try and recruit me to join the military and hilarious failure ensued.
First I tell him that I wasn't really interested in joining and he asks why. So I respond by asking what he was doing with his life. He said he was unemployed and suffered from some stress disorder because of what he did in some secret missions while in the Philippines. I told him that's exactly why I don't want to join the military.
Of course he doesn't stop there because he's an idiot, he proceeds to tell me how if I joined I may be able to "have my way" with "exotic women" in Asia like he did . So I'm sitting here thinking this guy raped some women while he was in the Philippines, got fucked up during his secret mission, and that's how he's trying to get me to sign up. To put the cherry on top he said you wouldn't have to wear a condom because if you get the girl pregnant because you would hold no responsibility! Is this what most 18 year old boys want to hear before signing up?
As another member says "da fok"?
The commercial where the guy defeats the lava monster is a much better recruitment tool imo.

I see military recruiters walk around my work all the time. Most my co-workers kindly take the card and kind of just push him along in a polite way, just teasing him pretending their interested. Last time I was approached (April 2011), I simply laughed at the guy and crumpled it up in front of him, and kept talking to my coworker like nothing happened (my coworker didnt play along w/ me, major bummer). Which honestly, took a lot of balls for me because he was about twice my size. I was moving several states away in a few days, so I figured I take the risk
But seriously, military recruiters are scum. I always see them walking around low-wage jobs, approaching the workers.

What position are you speaking from? Have you ever experienced combat? This is merely your impression. Post traumatic stress disorder is really sad and it shows what results from military careers. Many working class kids are brainwashed and bribed into the joining the military.
I just think it's rather insensitive of you to claim he's only trying to have sex.

I've been living in Korea for a while now and I have also read up on the subject of Americans stationed overseas. Rapes happen all the fucking time. You can't get away with it in Europe as much because the people are white (thus having more rights) and the USA can't bully the governments there as much and the victims are more likely to publish their attacks because there is less shame and they are more likely to speak an international language.
I've heard from a good soul who hated the way his compatriots treated the place they were living and I've heard another brag about raping Korean women to me. It was idle chit chat in line somewhere and I was too drunk to piece together what he was saying at first, so I had to ask for clarification, but the second I walked away I knew with certainty based on his last response.
To put the cherry on top he said you wouldn't have to wear a condom because if you get the girl pregnant because you would hold no responsibility!
If you needed any guarantees that he's an idiot beyond the I-have-shell-shock-and-tell-you-and-still-think-I'm-a-good-salesman, this is it. Having sex with/raping the women around bases and/or prostitutes catering to GIs is the best way to get HIV.

I've been demoted a few times. But I've also won more than a few awards/commendations, and was even chosen as the soldier of the year for my company while we were delpoyed in Iraq.
I was decent at "soldiering" (i.e. the skills that it takes to be a high speed soldier) but really shitty at being in the army (i.e. customs and courtesies, proper uniform wear, grooming standards, respect for officers etc). So lots of sargeants and shit liked me but officers fucking hated me, and the ass kissing sargeants treated me like shit.
Also, this kind of sums up my attitude and respect for authority regarding the army:
http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/oo109/chrisbrochill/IMG0005.jpg
Thats the outside of my salute hand (you have to render a hand salute to officers in the US army), it says "sniper check".
You never salute an officer when you're in the field, because it would indicate to any enemy snipers currently observing who the officer is and who to target. Saluting in the field is called a "sniper check", and the term is often said when you walk by an officer you don't like when you salute. Its essentially emplying that you'd like to see them shot.
Obviously, with it tattooed on my salute hand, every officer I encounter, I am encouraging to get shot.

To play the devil's advocate, I think there are a lot of recruiteirs who don't really care about recruiting. For example, a recruiter is stationed close to his/her hometown, isn't stuck on a ship or in the Middle East, and gets to be with his/her family and friends. It's a 9-to-5 job with all the benefits and none of the cons that usually come with being in the military. It's easy, no sleep deprivation, no lack of food, or violence. To keep that kush position, the recruiter has to recruit people, or else he or her gets sent back.
I think people tend to demonize the recruiter, but I prefer to demonize the government and system that thinks it's okay to allow them into public schools and recruit youth. When sailorjay did his enlistment years ago, the recruiter was honest about everything. Also got my parking tickets removed.

Generally yes, individuals in the combat arms branches conduct themselves in a similar manner, people in the special operations community have an even more similar personality/narrow way of conducting themselves.
As you can see, I'm not the only veteran who doesn't buy this guys totally impressive war story:
Sounds like a faker to me too.
Lots of people like to claim they have seen combat and that it fucked them up, because our society puts veterans on a pedastal, and lots of people like being the center of attention.
Notice how the individual in question wants sympathy from the woman, and wants to be idolized by the young man. He's just a glory hound. You can't force me to tell my bad war stories/discuss the things that I experienced that hurt me, those are only shared with the closest friends. Anybody who really has PTSD would never brag about it.

I still stand by the statement that anybody who "can't talk about it cause its secret" is a poser. If he was in the Philippines then he wouldn't have officialy been in direct combat (though he could have done it unofficially), but it means he would've been army SF, so he would also have plenty of tours if Iraq/Afghanistan, and its weird for him not to mention those.
And he would be able to talk, at least in generalities about what he did, other than have unprotected sex with third world prostitutes, which immediately makes him a liar in my mind, because nobody does that.
