Everything I've heard about this small minority of extremist Orthodox Jews is very troubling. Check this out:

Ultra-Orthodox Jewish groups in Israel would like to see gender separation in public, and some have stooped to harassing women -- and even children -- to get their way.

I've read more and more of this kinda stuff coming from these Orthodox rabbis. I find it hard to believe that a majority of the jewish people would not protest against this. The Orthodox are a minority but the ones who are really getting aggressive about is an even smaller sect. It looks like this sect plays spoiler in the elections and is therefore "untouchable"

I talked to someone I know who is an Israeli, and she said that while this is terrible, the fact that it's coming to light with such publicity is a distraction for what ever the israeli military is about to do. That way nobody will notice the israeli military action and when this is resolved it will give israel the false image of an enlightened and humanitarian nation who brought justice for some little Israeli girl. Meanwhile, there is a sudden and extreme (even by israeli standards) increase of military personnel on the Egyptian border. What happened to that girl was wrong and should be dealt with, but don't let it become a smoke screen.

One can say the same about westboro baptist church. Point is, the majority anywhere in the world is worried about livelihood matters rather than what a lunatic fringe may or may not do.
