View Full Version : Police Targeting BDS Protests

I don't know if I am posting this in the right place, but I feel the need to comment on the police response to our protests against Israel (or to more specific, companies that fund or profit from Israel's occupation of Palestine.)

This might be old news, but I've been thinking about the issue recently and I thought other people might have faced similar problems when taking action against Israel's occupation. The police presence at our B.D.S. protests is always disproportionally high. The protests are quite small compared to protests around other issues (gay marriage, for example) and the protestors behave peacefully yet the police always show up in large numbers with their huge horse (which I admit, freak me out.) At one of our protests nineteen of the more prominent activists were arrested.

The right-wing media has compared our protest to the Nazi boycott of Jewish businesses. I, of course, find the comparison to be ridiculous.

Have protestors in other countries faced similar problems? What does this tell us about Israel's power? Is there much hope for Palestine in light of how those who protest in its favour are treated? I'm curious to know what people think.
